Diane Jessup? The one who lives in Washington? The one who y'know... preaches about rescueing and ethical breeding? The one who wrote "The Working Pit Bull"? Yes! That Diane Jessup!
Now. You'd expect Diane Jessup, of all people, to get a pit bull from a reputable breeder or a rescue, right? Well you would be very much WRONG in that assumption!
Not only would she go to a complete and utter backyard breeder to get a pup named Havoc, but has the weird notion that rescueing is a lost cause!! And that people who *do* put their heart into rescuing are dirty, gross, nasty weird-os and who neglect their human babies! I didn't know how much all of us here in the Pacific Northwest *sucked* until she told us!
Her excuse? She wants a "Performance" dog. She somehow, in her messed up brain of hers, thinks that these dogs from these backyard breeders producing such "top notch" performance dogs (I don't even see any working titles to prove these dogs are capable of working!) aren't at all the Pit Bulls you could find in shelters!! Nooooo!! These dogs are impossible to get in a rescue and the ONLY WAY you can get a performance dog is from a backyard breeder who does no health testing! Because BYBs OF COURSE make sure their dogs never end up in rescues or shelters! What was I *thinking*?!
So wait! She somehow thinks that she can get a good performance dog from a breeder who does NO health testing and NO titling that I can see, and who's dogs are are kept out on chains and are seemingly whelped outside? So not only is she getting no proof of "performance" genetics, the health is questionable, who knows if in four years the dog gets some genetic disease and can no longer perform?
Will it be put down like her other dog? Who's temperament went sour as it matured? Who says her new spiffy BYB dog won't do the same? And if it does is that just a testament to her ability to raise dogs?
And oh... What else? She of course doesn't seem to get why other people "care" that she got a dog from a BYB! She's flippant and shrugs it off as if "HAHA I BOUGHT A BYB DOG LOLOLOL!" because we people who do in fact care about dogs should let her do whatever she wants because... SHE WANTS A PERFORMANCE DOG! And that makes everything okay! We should just shrug off her sending money to a BYB because she's buying one from them for a "good" reason!
