Film - "V for Vendetta"

Can anyone give me a steer on how suitable/unsuitable this film would be for a twelve-year-old? It's classified 15 with "very strong language and strong violence", but he's seen The Matrix, also 15, and Torchwood - Miracle Day without apparent trauma. Being the youngest, he has been distinctly less sheltered from stuff than the oldest was ( Read more... )

I found it incredibly dull tbh, so I don't think it would be terribly upsetting for a 12yo.

Although the bits involving Rupert Graves held my attention. *g*

Rupert Graves is in it? I'm there!

OH is watching bloody Ice Road Truckers at the moment - he just doesn't do drama at all, which pisses me off big-time. But I think I've talked him out of watching it by himself tomorrow before he lets little'n watch, so we may be having a late session tonight.

OH gets far more disturbed by them being hearing "strong" language than violence, which I must say disturbs me! My view is that a kid who introduced me to Green Day when he was nine years old is past saving on the language front...

Thanks for replying!

actually, the relationship between Graves and his superior was for me by far the best thing in the film (I even got someone to write me fic, hah).

I remember finding the rest of it massively sexist, tbh, and that's not normally something that bothers me at all.

I saw it a couple of weeks ago. Since he's got older brothers I doubt the language would be a problem and a lot of the violence likewise. There are a few things that might be upsetting, but a lot of it is in the mind - it's not particularly graphic.

I enjoyed it a lot, as did OH. When I'd originally read about it I'd been a bit dubious but I actually think it's good.

As with anything of this nature I would recommend watching it too, just in case there's a particular trigger that affects your son.

That's very helpful, thank you! Yes, the older brothers thing does rather make a difference. I probably will start watching with them, but I do get bored very quickly in general. I'll definitely stay in the room though.

I found it horridly preachy and bombastic, while Daughter and Girlfriend (17 and 18, respectively) sat there going "Best movie ever," but then it is based on a graphic novel.

I'm not certain I would have let any of the kids watch it at 12 yo.
