how many times would you try a locked public bathroom door before realizing that it might be a single occupancy bathroom? Twice? Like, the knob is turning, but there is obviously a lock on the inside keeping it shut. How long do you think that takes to parse

We have a bathroom like that here. The more frantic the person gets the more quiet I get. It's particularly satisfying when I can hear them swearing under their breath.

this is a huge pet peeve of mine. i especially hate when, after they have tried the door a few times, they ask if someone is in there. no, someone is not in there, management just decided to screw with them and lock the restroom door. i am glad to hear that it bothers someone else too :)
