D: Got it.
R: Good.
D: (slight pause) The vessel with the pestle.
R: Has the pellet with the poison.

The Duchess dove at the Duke just when the Duke dove at the Doge. Now the Duke ducked, the Doge dodged, and the Duchess didn’t. So the Duke got the Duchess, the Duchess got the Doge, and the Doge got the Duke!

Hah! Not two nights ago, "Don Juan," starring John Barrymore in tights was on AMC. It's a silent movie, for God's sake, and we got all caught up in it. Set in the Borgia's Rome and very lavishly costumed and all. At one point someone hands Don Juan a cup with Lucretia's poison in it, and ....

T: The flagon with the dragon!
M: Has the brew that is true!
T: Or is that the vessel with the pestle?
T & M: Don't drink it!

In my private canon, Jessica Fletcher (Murder, She Wrote) loves to quote that scene, but gets it wrong. *g*

Oh, excellent. She was startling as a young beautiful princess, as I recall. I was startled, anyway. Must rent that silly movie again.

Don Juan was on TCM, I think, not AMC. Not that you care, but I hate getting my facts wrong.

And I just remembered! There was a chalice from the palace, too!

I've seen Young Angela Lansbury in three movies so far: The Court Jester, Gaslight and State of the Union. In each one, she played some variation of Sexy!Evil!Beauty. I don't know if this is just coincidence, or if she was typecast early in her career, like the way Young Humphrey Bogart always played a thug.

I love that the producers of The Court Jester actually cast Basil Rathbone in the Basil Rathbone part. The only way the casting could have been cooler would have been to cast Errol Flynn as the Black Fox.
