[Fiction] Tatters We Let

Mar 11, 2007 18:08

Since dormant_muses seem to be working well with Sunergos, I might as well post ideas on Tatters here.

Tatters We Let is a rated Teen, five-part Naruto fanfiction (FFnet teaser: 5 women and what they let be.) The first to third parts tackle Ino and her relationshop with Shikamaru, Hinata with Naruto, and Sakura with Sasuke respectively. I still have two installments to go. Tenten's story is next and her story is tied up with Hinata's via Neji. Temari's is last, tied up with Ino's (through Shikamaru) to close the series. It's mostly on the drama side, a little bleak, somewhat disjointed, and hints a bit on mature themes.

Since parts 1 to 3 are done, I'll just post the 31_days prompts (from September 2006 themes), my initial inspirations, and comments on each story.

1. Tatters We Let - 1st Fragment (Ino) Sept 18 Such is the bondage of folly - this was inspired by something totally unrelated. It was actually an anecdote from my brother from when he visited our aunt in California. I used the scene where our aunt asked our uncle to step out of the bathroom while he was in the middle of showering. ^^;;; Of course, the scene in the story is a bit darker, and decidedly uninnocent. All in all, I liked this story. It's just that Shikamaru seemed so horrendously two-dimensional in this story. =( Or maybe it's just me and my perception of his character was colored by his issues in the story (i.e. his side wasn't explained---but that's intentional, anyway). Chouji had much better characterization that he did, I think. The ending was weak.

2. Simplicity - 2nd Fragment (Hinata) Sept 21 Greece and it's immortal glories - I think the initial image for this story was cold toes and frigid dawns. The dynamics between the characters that I used (i.e. Hinata, Hanabi, and Neji; Hinata and Naruto) are pretty much based on Sunergos dynamics with a more cynical edge added. The background story on the village politics was a bit too vague, which is really too bad since it would have provided a starker contrast between Hinata's public life and the blitheness of her private life with Naruto. This story could have really benifitted from more organization. I don't dislike it, but I think it's rather poorly executed. Also, I think I approached the whole NaruHina lime thing halfheartedly. I kinda have trouble thinking about the more sensual side of their relationship. But hey, maybe that's a good thing.

3. Sunflowers - 3rd Fragment (Sakura) Sept 24 bioremediation - sadly, this story again proves that no matter how much I decide to despise Uchiha Sasuke, my forte is still SasuSaku. =__= Anyway, I got the idea for this story while watching a documentary. I think it was either in Discovery Channel or Crime TV, a show tackling sex addiction. Hahaha. . . I actually like the story as is, and in this case, keeping my paws off from editing some more would probably be a good idea. I would have loved to put more details on the gas heater bit, though. That aside, I think this was the best in the bunch so far, so if you want to read one of them, read this. I think it'll be hard to top, really.

The next two parts:

1. Tenten: I like NejiTen, but I haven't had much practice with it so. . . Ho-hum. Most of my ideas for this story relate to Story number 2. I think I'll focus on Neji and his clan issues. Probably use the downplayed NejiTen issues in Sunergos. The prompt for this was Sept 26 Game and set to you, quicksilver. Tentative title is "Mercury," or something with the word 'mercury,' anyway.

2. Temari: I doubt I've ever written her before. I'm really a ShikaIno shipper, but I've always been intruiged by ShikaTem, way before I've ever gotten into any ships. This piece is more exploratory of Shikamaru's situation, more than anything. I really gotta be careful so I don't reduce Temari into a mere plot device. The prompt for this story is Sept 27 the seductive degradation of knowledge. I'll try to play on the analytical natures of both Temari and Shikamaru. And of course, their enhanced ability to delude themselves. Hehe.

Ambitions, ambitions. *sigh*
