Will have a map up eventually, need to edit it first.

Ragnarok Online Reader Glossary and FAQ

Places
RUNE-MIDGARD - The main country that the world of Ragnarok Online is based around.

-- Prontera - The capital of Rune-Midgard, residence of King Tristam III. This is also where the most people gather to buy and sell goods, and is the location of many important buildings such as the Prontera Sanctuary, the main center of training for Acolytes and Priests, and the Prontera Reserve Forces. This is also the center of operations for the armies (made up of the Crusaders and Knights).

-- Izlude - The satellite town of Prontera, practically walking distance from the capital. It is much smaller than Prontera, but holds the Swordsman Association, recruiting young people who will one day join the armies of Prontera. Also holds a small port, offering ferries to the Alberta and the nearby island of Byalan.

-- Geffen - The town of magic and mayhem. Due to its proximity to the ancient civilization of Geffenia, it is the home of Magicians and Wizards. It is also house to the headquarters of the Blacksmith guild. It is located to the distant northwest of Prontera, across Mt. Mjolnir.

-- Morroc - Based in the sandy deserts of Sograt, to the far southwest of Prontera, and south across the rivers from Geffen, Morroc is a shady town full of thugs and bandits. In the basement of the nearby pyramids is the Thief Guild. There are rumors that the Assassin Guild is close by, yet its true location is held a secret.

-- Payon - Payon was originally a poortown, merely a village, compared to the grandeur of Prontera and Alberta. Near Payon is the Archer's Village, where various archery ranges are located to hone skills in the bow and arrow. In the same village is Payon Cave, home of various undead and demonic creatures.

-- Glastheim - Glastheim is an old city that fell to ruin many years in the past. It is currently a ghost town, populated with the undead. The Prontera Sanctuary and the Prontera Reserve have set up some dungeons (such as the prisons) as training grounds, to send to the other areas, to prevent the evil forces from spreading to other towns, particularly the nearest town of Geffen. To do this, there are camps for trainees and members in the main hall of the Glastheim castle's first floor, as well as its immediate surrounding grounds.

SCHWARZWALD REPUBLIC - The country that ajoins Rune-Midgard to the north. In the earlier years of our series, the Schwarzwald Republic invades Rune-Midgard, and the two countries are at war. The Schwarzwald Republic is known for its advanced technology.

Training System:

Novices
All citizens of Midgard start out as novices. At this stage, they learn basic knowledge which can be applied for all jobs. Novices normally graduate at the age of 12 to start out training for their jobs.

First Job Classes
After novicehood, citizens can choose a job to specialize in. There are six basic jobs to choose from: acolyte, archer, mage, swordsman, thief and merchant. This is when they learn the basic skills needed for the path that they chose, which will be the foundation of further studies. Students normally spend six years in their first job, graduating at the age of 18.

Acolyte - The holy classes which serve the Prontera Sanctuary. Acolytes are highly valued party mates, particularly for their ability to heal wounds and for their supportive prayers and blessings. Some acolytes use their supportive abilities to fight alone, following the solitary lifestyle of the monk.

* Important Skills:

-- Heal - Closes up wounds and makes you feel more rejuvenated. Heal may be used against undead creatures for damage.

-- Teleport - Can teleport you to a random point nearby. At a higher level, it allows you to teleport back to the Kafra that you registered with.

-- Warp Portal - Creates a portal that sends anyone who enters back to the Kafra that the Acolyte has registered with. With more experience, the Acolyte can memorize up to three more places (with or without a Kafra employee), and can also keep the portal open for longer and allow more people to pass.

Swordsman - The most basic melee class, swordsmen (and women) are trained in, of course, swordfighting. The swordsman can use any melee weapon, though they may specialize in particular with one and two-handed swords, or spears. They are trained to eventually fight for the armies of Rune-Midgard, to join in the country's defenses as knights, or to partake in the holy war, as crusaders. After the war, many swordsmen (and their higher classes, the Knight and Crusader) become mercenaries or adventurers.

Mage - The elemental offensive spellcaster. Mages may choose to specialize in certain elements, or if they are skilled enough, may even master all.

Second Job Classes
After graduation, a citizen has learned all that they can from their first job. They retain this information and are allowed the chance to pursue further training in a higher job. Currently each first job class may choose from two higher classes to move to. A person remains in his second job class until they gain enough ability to transcend to an even higher class.

Priest - The next level for an acolyte, priests provide more blessings for party members, though some priests possess more offensive skills that can be used to exorcise demons and the undead. Priests remain under the tutelage and service of the Prontera Sanctuary, and are known to provide help to adventurers (those that would LIKE to help, at least).

* Important Skills

-- Resurrection - Brings a person on the brink of death back through the veil. For story purposes, a person can only be resurrected if they are not 'too far gone' and if their body is still whole.

Knight - Knights specialize particularly with fighting, possessing an array of melee attacks. In general, knights choose to fight with either two-handed swords for lightning fast movements and counter attacks, or with spears for high-damaging attacks and area damage.

Crusader - The crusader is the holy warrior, and is more geared towards defending others from danger. Crusaders possess skills with the shield, and may willingly take damage in the place of an ally. They are particularly devastating against demons and the undead, with the addition of holy, exorcising spells under their arsenal. Alternatively, crusaders may choose to take on the spear.

NPCs:

Kafra Employees - The Kafra Corporation provides service to travellers. [need more on this, lol. Will read up in-game]

* Services

-- Save - Register this Kafra employee to be your return point when using a Butterfly Wing or the skill Teleport

-- Teleport - Provide a direct teleport to specific towns for a fee of 1,200 to 3,000 zeny

Tool Dealers - Tool dealers, available in most towns, provide the basic commodities for survival, such as potions for healing, fly wings and butterfly wings for travel, and other similar items.
