The challenge originally came from
cea_chan. So if you want someone to hurt, then hurt her. :P It was also named by
luckychan and it's a cool title, that's why I want to acknowledge her XD
This is how the challenge goes:
1) The title of the piece must be the ONLY dialogue in the piece. If your title is "Somewhere over the Rainbow" then that means that somewhere in the story, someone will say "Somewhere over the Rainbow" and that will be the only thing said in the entire piece. We were considering that the title can be a word in a SINGLE statement in the only dialogue, but that could allow cheating such as using "You" as a title, which allows a large variety of things. We may consider exceptions though, so ask questions.
2) You also have a minimum of 500 words. It just wouldn't be fair to do a challenge like this only to have submissions be less than a page long now, would it? Besides, 500 words is actually the community requirement (aside from the flash fiction pieces)
3) Thoughts don't necessarily count as dialogue. But if you DO use thoughts, it's better if you only show one person's perspective.
4) First person perspective is forbidden. Because sometimes it seems like dialogue. Third person perspective and limited third person perspective are preferable. The latter is especially for thoughts. If you can convince me otherwise though, let's talk about it and I might get rid of this rule. It was just something I thought of, really.
5) As specially requested, the rule to use already existing characters has been abolished. You can make up new characters for the challenge. Using previously existing characters is still encouraged though :) The rule was made to begin with so that you don't create characters JUST for the challenge (i.e. you created their personalities to specifically adapt to the situation or lines you used in the previous two challenges). I doubt that it's possible for this one though.
6) As always, the challenge is open to non-members.
Deadline: October 7, 2007. That's a whole month. The response shall be considered as part of the September output.
Comment to apply. Or to ask questions. Or to protest. Or to help me figure out rules :D
