Room 409

Feb 01, 2007 10:34

After managing to stay mostly awake during Film and Lit, Broots was back in his room, typing away on his laptop and listening to something over his headphones. He was also randomly glaring at his cell phone and the minor explosion of clothes that was falling out of his closet.

Parker knocked on the door, and waited as patiently as she could for Broots to answer. Really.

"It's open!" Broots yelled.

Parker opened the door, and sidled in, hands on her hips. "Broots. Hi. I need information. You know enough about the Centre mainframes to probably remember what I don't."

Broots took off his ear-phones. "What?"

She pushed a hand through her hair. "In what part of the system do they keep the references for code names? Is there any kind of central database, or have they completely separated them all, so there's no one accessible source in the system?"

Broots scratched behind his ear and tried to keep up. "Well, every Friday night at 11:59 PM all the Centre mainframes from all across the country do this mass back-up into this giant system at Hillman through their Blue Boxes. It's um...., don't remember what state, but not Virginia or Deleware. Is that what you're looking for?"

Parker's eyes brightened. "Hillman! Hillman... Marine. I don't remember the state either, but yes, that's exactly what I'm looking for." Her face fell then. "But I don't have access to that. Do I. It's need-to access only, isn't it?"

"Sorry, yeah. Um...do I wanna know why you wanna know?"

"No, you really, really don't." Parker gave him a look. "In fact, you might want to pretend we never had this conversation."

"Of course not." Broots said, wondering if it was too late to move to Canada.

"Thanks, though." Parker gave him a bright, brittle smile. "Someday, you won't have to be unnerved by me asking you questions any more. Look forward to that," she added, heading for the door.
