Title: Double Date
Rating: G
Universe: Marvel Comics, Young Avengers
Summery: Eli and Kate, on a double date with Billy and Teddy.

"This is so stupid." Eli Bradly grumbled, eyeing the building in front of him with obvious distrust.

"It's an ice cream parlor." Teddy Altman sighed. "You've faced down supervillains without flinching. You can do this."

"It's nothing to get nervous over." Billy Kaplan added.

"You're not the one who's supposed to be here with Kate." Eli growled back. "And where the hell is she? It's two o'clock already."

"She had fencing lessons across town that ended at 1:30." Kate Bishop drawled, snapping her cell phone closed. "And now she wants some Cherry Garcia."

"Oh, this place has much better that Cherry Garcia." Billy said, eyes bright with joy. He lead the way, and something told Eli that he amiable spellcaster was only just barely keeping himself from skipping.

Eli glanced at Kate, who was running a hand through damp hair (shesmellslikelavender) and decided once again that this was a bad idea (whatthehellwasithinkingaskingher).

The ice cream parlor's interior was small and looked like something out of the 1950's. Billy waved at one of the waitresses and lead the way to a corner booth. Billy and Teddy claimed one side of the booth (ohdamnimgonnahavetositnexttoher), the red leather creaking beneath them. Eli slid in beside Kate as a young girl in a frilly white apron and no-nonsense shoes came to their booth, menues in her hand. Billy smiled at her. "Hi, Lizzie."

"Hi, Billy. The usual?" The girl rolled her eyes as Billy nodded eagerly. "Gran wants so know when you're going to marry me so you'll get free ice cream."

"When you say yes." Billy replied sweetly, which made the girl laugh.

"And that will be when I don't think you'll eat us out of business. What can I get for the rest of you folks?"

"Kate wants the Cherry Bomb, Teddy wants the Peanutbutter Creamer, and Eli wants the House Special." Billy said. The others looked at him. "Trust me. I've eaten my way through the whole menue."

"... whatever." Teddy finally said, though his tone hinted that he and Billy were going to talk about this later.

"Sounds good." Kate agreed.

Eli was checking the prices (ohhellitstenbuckseachforthesmallshowamigonnapayfor). Before the teen could point out that their collective order was going to come out to at least $40 and that he had only brought $15 (icecreamissupposedtobeacheapdate), the waitress had disappeared. "Dammit." Eli muttered. "Billy, can I talk to you?"

Kate was reading the menue when she spoke up. "Okay, I can cover the bill but I need to calculate the tip-"

"I'll pay for us." Eli said, a little too quickly.

"Don't be stupid. I can cover the whole bill, so we don't have to split the check."

"I said I'd pay. I asked you on a date, and the guy is supposed to pay."

"What kind of old school bullshit it that? I can afford it."

"You did not just-"

The waitress returned with four bowls of ice cream, each one almost as big as Eli's head. "Gran says it's on the house."

"Thank god." Billy muttered under his breath, digging a spoon into a mound of bright green ice cream.

Eli glared at the small mountain of chocolat ice cream in front of him as if it had personally offended him (smoothmovenowshesnevergonna), and the four youthful heroes sat in a decidedly uncomfortable silence. Finally, Kate took a dainty spoonfull of ice cream and ate it.

"Wow. This is good."

"It's it?" Billy said, eagerly latching on to a topic of conversation. "The chocolat bits have cherry liqure inside."

Eli contenplated his own ice cream. It was a rich, chocolatey brown that was probably giving him cavities just by existing. He dipped a spoon in and brought up a chunk of what was probably brownie. With the air of a condemed man approaching the gallows, he stuck it in his mouth. The brownie chunk melted on his tongue and wrapped around his brain.

(ohwow)

Another spoon, laiden with red and white ice cream, appeared in front of Eli's eyes. "You have got to try this." Kate said. At that point, Eli didn't feel like arguing. He just sucked the ice cream off the spoon. Kate smiled at him and pilfered some of the chocolate mountain.
