Victor held Nico's body close, trying to find a heartbeat, trying to find her breath. Nothing. Her body cooled even as he held it. He looked up at Ultron, who was looking ever so pleased with himself.
Victor finally understood how Chase had felt that night, holding on to Gert while everything around him went up in flames. He truly understood wanting to destroy everything around him, like the sacrifice could pull her back.
But destruction wouldn't put life back into Nico.
He laid her down like she was a sleeping child that he did not wish to wake. "She's dead," he said flatly, "and now, so are you."
