Victor stood there, stuck as silent as anyone else in the TV room as he looked at Santo. The ambulatory pile of rocks was down on one knee in front of him, a velvet jewel box open and displaying a gold ring resting on his open palm. Victor could feel a headache forming behind his eyes as the silence was broken -- by Northstar. Laughing. This set off a chain reaction across the room, as a slow building wave of chuckles, giggles, and guffaws, with Victor and Santo the only ones still silent.
“Okay,” Victor said, amazed at himself that he was managing to keep so calm, “couple of things, Santo. One. We don’t live in New York anymore. Two. Even if we went to New York, just because we could get married, that doesn’t mean that I would, especially to you, since you’re straight and kinda a jerk.”
Santo put on a ridiculous pout. “Yer breakin’ my heart, Vic! Ya know ya love me.”
“I wouldn’t marry you if you were the last man on Earth, Santo. Remember, I have options. There are tons of other worlds with life on them. I could still find a guy who doesn’t drive me nuts.”
