“Karolina, my love, you must go,” Xavin said, her voice calm and quiet, but her eyes filled with panic as she struggled to get James into his jacket. The toddler whined and squirmed at the rough treatment, and looked ready to throw a full on tantrum at any moment.
“Xavin, what’s going on? What-”
“-is it them?” Karolina asked flatly as Victor lowered his binoculars. The android didn’t actually need them, but they came with all kinds of recording devices, and Their Majesties liked having very thorough records of all engagements. He looked at her grimly and handed the binoculars over.
“What kind of lame name is-”
“The Skrull Kill Krew,” Karolina whispered.
“I can’t believe they’re still alive,” Victor said. “Looks like they’ve gotten some recruits.”
“Well,” Karolina told her friend grimly, “they won’t be alive for-”
“-long, Xavin?”
“I do not know, my love,” the Skrull said. “Until I lose them.” She cupped the back of Karolina’s head and kissed her tenderly. “I will lead them away from you and James. Be safe, beloved.”
