Molly's lower lip trembled as she tugged the brush through her hair. She was never gonna get all the tangles and stuff out. This was worse than the time she got gum stuck in her hair. She was going to have to cut it!
She was going to cry.
She heard Victor call her name through the door, and very reluctantly let him in. He surveyed the disaster that was her hair and took the brush from her. "I can fix this," he said. "Have a seat."
Molly settled in front of the vanity, watching Victor's reflection as he tutted over the mess and gently pulled the worst of the tangles apart with his fingers. "Back in a moment, chica," he said, disappearing out the door. He reappeared just as Molly was getting fidgety, carrying a couple of towels, a big water jug, and the little tub Nico used to soak her feet. He also had shampoo.
Victor grinned at her as he started setting up. "This'll be easier to do if we wash the crud out as we go."
Molly nodded, her mouth running on automatic pilot as Victor's fingers moved gently through her hair. There was something very soothing about it. Soon the little tub was full of dirty water, and Molly was toweling off her clean, tangle free hair. Victor promptly proceeded to mess up all his hard work by ruffling it.
"Looking good, Mol. You got good hair. Like silk." He waved a casual goodbye over his shoulder as he left, and Molly felt heat rising to her face.
It was three days before she put her hat back on.
