“Ow!” Victor looked at the page of the book that had betrayed him by leaving a little nick on his finger. He scowled and stuck the wounded appendage in his mouth, sucking on it and tasting blood, ever so faintly. He marked his place in Born Normal with his other hand. “Damn it.”
He’d gotten blood on the page.
“Dammit,” he repeated. This was his autographed copy. He didn’t even fold the pages back on this one, and now he’d bled on it. And his finger stung.
