The small, round stone in Ted's hand made a soft clicking sound as he laid it next to the last one he'd left. He ran a hand over what little clear surface was left on the memorial, and listened to the whispered conversations across the lawn.
"Oldun's back again, I see."
"Like tick-tock, every worweek."
"Is it some sorta Skrull stuff? The rocks one the slab?"
"Naw, Jewish stuff. My meem told me oldun and the fel were mates."
"Naw, your parental's pulling your shank. Fel's been here least a cen, maybe more. Oldun'd have to be forever, ken?"
Ted smiled to himself, looking up at the statue of his long dead lover. He'd had it made to look like William had when they'd been young. It was so long ago now, but sometimes it felt like yesterday.
"Not much longer," Ted whispered to the statue.
