1 AM
Sarah woke up from the nightmare of the Danger Room, shuddering and panting and trying not to scream because that would have woken Alani up. She pulled her knees up to her chest and tried not to think about what the Danger Room had promised in her nightmares.
Quietly, the young cyberpath got out of bed and put on her shoes.
2 AM
“Sage, ma’am? I know it’s late by it’s important and you said before that if there was ever something really important I could talk to you…”
3 AM
“The Danger Room programming is designed to simulate potentially lethal environments,” Sage said, “ and given your talent for unconsciously tapping into every network around you, I can’t say I’m surprised that you’re picking that up. I’ll build you a firewall, but I want you to work on making one yourself.”
“Yes, ma’am,” Sarah said meekly.
Sage grunted, drumming her fingers on the arm of her chair. “Until I’m sure the firewall is working, I want you to stay out of the Danger Room. I’ll tell your faculty advisor.”
“Thank you, ma’am.”
4 AM
“Jesus, Sarah, where the hell did you disappear to?” Alani asked, practically throwing herself across the other girl. “Do you have any idea what time it is?”
“Time for me to go back to sleep?” Sarah suggested.
5 AM
Sarah slept peacefully for the moment, untroubled by dreams.
6 AM
“Why do you feel the need to be awake at this ungodly hour of the day?”
“Not all of us go wandering about in the middle of the night, Sarah.”
7 AM
Mr. Beaubier looked Sarah up and down critically. “I received a very interesting message for Sage. At four in the morning. Do you care to explain?”
“Um. She said that I keep unconsciously trying to interface with the Danger Room and that I shouldn’t go in there until she can build a firewall strong enough to keep me out of the programming.”
8 AM
While the rest of Alpha Squadron battled the Danger Room, Sarah napped in Study Hall, fighting the room in her dreams.
9 AM
“And then,” Victor said, “right before the big claw was gonna grab Paras, it blew up.”
“Aw hell,” Sarah muttered, rubbing the bridge of her nose. She didn’t need Vic to tell her what happened next. She’d already seen it, in her dream.
10 AM
“I’ll just have to make the firewall stronger,” Sage said. “I like a challenge.
11 AM
“Gaah, it feels like she’s been poking me in the brain for hours!”
12 PM
“Julian’s an ass,” Sarah said, watching the fight brewing between the Hellions and the New Mutants.
“He’s not that bad,” Victor said defensively around his sandwich.
“Look, just because you’ve got a crush on him doesn’t mean he’s not an ass.”
“I do not!”
1 PM
Ethics, Sarah decided as she watched Ms. Frost, was the best class ever.
2 PM
“I’m still picking up Danger Room sessions, and it’s giving me a headache. I can’t concentrate in class.”
“See if Dr. McCoy can’t give you something for that.”
3 PM
“I do not know what Dr. McCoy gave you,” Lazaro said as he helped Sarah stay upright, “but I think it was too strong.”
Sarah just giggled the giggle of the drugged.
4 PM
Sarah curled up in her bed and slipped blissfully into oblivion with the help of Dr. McCoy’s pills.
5 PM
Sarah snored softly.
6 PM
She turned over, knocking her pillow off the bed.
7 PM
Alani watched Sarah sleep for a few minutes, tucking the cyberpath’s covers up over her shoulder before going to join Vic in the nightly battle against Santo for the TV.
8 PM
Andrea left some sandwiches on Sarah’s desk. The girl didn’t even stir.
9 PM
“Maybe we should track down a handsome prince to kiss her awake?” Paras suggested.
10 PM
Alani lay beside Sarah on the dark haired girl’s bed, watching her sleep.

The two girls slept, Alani’s arms wrapped around Sarah.

Sarah work up screaming.
