Victor glared sourly after Noriko, the smell of ozone making his eyes water. “One of these days,” he muttered, climbing onto the ceiling to avoid any more zaps when Nori went rushing by again. He could see the little scorch marks the Japanese mutant had left behind in her rush to get wherever she was going.
A blood curdling shriek made Victor lose his grip on the ceiling, and he crashed to the floor. He recognized that shriek. “Sarah!”
He rolled to his feet and followed the scream until he found Sarah sitting against the wall, twitching convulsively, a PDA in her hand and the smell of ozone strong in the air.
Victor swore under his breath and carefully picked up the cyberpath. “It’s okay, I’ve got you.”

“So far as I can tell,” Dr. McCoy said, taking off his glasses and wiping them clean before replacing them on his muzzle, “Miss Vale was conversing with this,” he dropped the fried PDA into Mr. Beaubier’s hands, “when Noriko ran by. There shouldn’t be any lasting side effects, but I’ll check up on her for a while yet to be sure.”
“Hear that?” Victor whispered. “You’re gonna be fine.”
“Tell me that when my brain stops trying to leak out of my ears…” Sarah groaned.
