Author's Notes: This is the part in which I start pulling in another story idea I had with Matt. Muwahahah.

“My, don’t you have a talent for making interesting friends,” Hacker drawled as he followed Matt down the steps.

“I fail to see how it matters to you,” the detective informed his former partner coolly.

“Under the circumstances, it wouldn’t,” the FBI agent said. “But I thought you might be interested in a new lead in your case.”

Matt slowed his steps just enough for Hacker to catch up. “I’m listening.”

Hacker pulled a folded up sheet of paper out of his pocket and passed it to Matt. The red head opened it up, studying the symbol drawn on it. It was a spiral with a series of smaller, random looking whorls spreading out from it. It was both hypnotic and oddly frightening. Matt tucked it away quickly. “What’s it mean?”

“Ask your friend,” Hacker suggested. “You might be surprised at the answers he can give you. Oh, and say hi to your sister for me next time you talk to her.”

The paper felt oddly heavy in Matt’s pocket as Hacker walked away, and he found himself puzzled by his former partner’s request. Matt had rarely seen Rosie when he’d still been with the FBI, and hadn’t had any contact with her or his mother since coming back to New York .

Of course, he should give his mother a call… but she wasn’t exactly talking to him at the moment.

“You’ve got a date,” Tony accused, watching his brother tease some fruity smelling product through his hair.

“It’s not a date,” Gabe said. “I’m meeting someone for drinks and conversation. Conversation that doesn’t involve you whining about your not being allowed out.”

“I think that’s a very important topic,” Tony pointed out. “Cause I sure as hell felt freer while I was locked up.”

“Grandmother doesn’t think you can be trusted not to do something stupid,” Gabe retorted. “If you’ve got a problem with that, take it up with her.”

“She doesn’t talk to me.”

“Which just goes to show she’s the smart one,” Gabe sighed.

Cassandra poked her head into the bathroom, wrinkling her nose. “Why do you smell like a cheap tart?”

“He’s got a date,” Tony told her.

“It’s not a date!” Gabe protested.

Cassandra inhaled deeply, then looked her employer over, noting the snug fitting slacks and ironed shirt. “It’s a date,” she pronounced.

“I am going to be so glad when you’ve got someone to bother other than me,” Gabe growled.
