Gaara watched Lee sleep, slowly tracing the trails of scars across the Leaf nin’s back. A road map of hard work and pain. Lee was far harsher on himself than any opponent ever could be.
Gaara reached up and touched his bare shoulder, and the faint scar Uchiha Sasuke’s chidori had left behind. Lee seemed to find the mark fascinating. His hand wandered up to the tattoo on his brow, tracing the scarring that differentiated the word from the rest of his flesh.
Lee stirred, rolling on his back and opening an eye, smiling up at him sleepily. “Gaara,” he murmured, sitting up. His rough, calloused hand brushed through Gaara’s hair, tangling in the messy red locks. He pulled Gaara into a lingering kiss. The Sand nin could feel places where Lee’s teeth had been knocked out and replaced with sparkling white dentures. Gaara’s teeth were all his own. Naruto had knocked a few loose during the failed invasion of Konohagakure, but nobody had managed to knock any out.
Sometimes, Gaara wondered what that would feel like.
