“I thought it was only four of them,” Victor whispered to Molly, watching the five children pull their luggage out of the quinjet in eerie silence.
“They couldn’t get Nate to leave without Hal,” Molly whispered back. “They’ll keep each other entertained.”
“As long as they don’t try to hack into my brain.”
Molly chuckled. “Relax. It’s not like they’re going to knock you down and sit on your chest again.”
“God, I hope not. I’ve seen what those kids can do. They’d probably rip me apart.”
“They’re good kids.”
“Why aren’t they staying in the Tower?”
Molly’s lips compressed into a thin line. “The Avengers think that the kinds need a little time away. After what happened to Ted and Will.”
Victor nodded. He could feel something buzzing in the back of his brain, trying to connect. He scanned the five children, instantly dismissing the three eldest Altman-Kaplans as the source. That left the two younger boys, who were both watching him, their expressions at odds with their youth.
Molly walked off the porch and proceeded to make a fuss over the children, giving Victor a twinge of guilt. Ultron had made him fully functional, but he and Molly had no children. The robot had clearly not included the ability to breed under the list of necessary requirements. Molly loved children, and he couldn’t give her any.
It was why he’d agreed to host the Altman-Kaplans (and, apparently, the Lang boy) for the summer, or until their parents could be found.
He looked at the five grim faced children and felt a chill run down his spine.
