So, recently, our cell phone bill has been going up by quite a lot, even though we aren't using the data-transfer on our cell phones more. It wasn't until recently that I realized the problem.

We're paying for our cell phone bill using a credit card, because apparently it's illegal for gaijin to use their legally established Japanese bank accounts ( Read more... )

I know! I don't understand why using a Japanese bank isn't an option, unless they're worried that we'll leave the country and skip out on paying the rest of the contract or something.

Come to think of it, that's probably exactly what this policy is designed to stop.

Welcome to Tim's life. He had to pay 7K upfront on his tokyo apartment because he works for US military and he needed a person from his place of employment who was ALSO a japanese citizen to cosign
