We get a house in the middle of a spider-infested rice paddy!

Okay, maybe it's slugs instead of spiders. ^_~

It sounds like it's a pleasant country village surrounded by mountains, so softlykarou gets to take the raised road through the rice paddies to school like you see in all those anime. Falling cherry blossoms in season only, I think. Rent is only ¥17, ( Read more... )

yeah, tim bought his (previous) car from the previous JET person. however he says passing the japanese drivers test is a bitch.

We have a year before we have to do that, so there's plenty of time. An AAA international driving certificate will get us by until then.

Evidently you have less than a year, Tim got a ticket at 6 months for not doing it. Or maybe it depends on how shitty the police in your prefecture are

According to softlykarou's predecessor, you have a year or so before it really matters.

According to the Tokyo Embassy website, you have until the police pull you over and bust you for Driving While Gaijin.

Edit: The Japanese police say that you have a year, but that you can't keep leaving and getting new certificates to avoid taking the test. So you have one year at the maximum, and less if they don't like you.
