Changes to the comm?

Dec 09, 2009 14:57

Okay, dorama_watch, I know it's been a long time coming but it's time for the comm to reset! Before we choose our next shows, I thought this would be a good time to ask for input about how our schedule can best fit in with yours. I know people can be busier depending on both what's going on in real-life and what airing dramas they're watching. :) So, two polls ( Read more... )

I think we need more TWdramas. Too much Korean going on :)

Thanks for the input! Hmm, yeah, I do feel for the twdramas! It's hard for them to compete when it's just a popular vote. Maybe we should try a round where we limit by country?

*jumps in here* Along those lines, every so often you could make one of the two drama choices themed - by country, genre, even have a particular actor or actress featured - after all, you did do Halloween-themed movies, right? Obviously movies don't require as much dedication, and having tight themes could alienate some watchers, but if it wasn't done often, and was only one out of the two dramas of choice I think it could shake things up.

I do like that idea! As a mod, I've been tending to want to let the popular vote decide things because I don't want it have my hand in it too much. But in a way I think limitations are inspiring! Then you get to nominate your favorite twdrama/detective story/Ayase Haruka drama and aren't drowning in possible choices. I think themed nominations would definitely be fun, assuming we keep the two show format.

As much as I love this community, life has gotten really busy and it's hard to watch two dramas so many times a week.

I think we should concentrate on smaller shows that not many people have watched.

I like the monthly movie idea.

If you still want to watch 2 shows at once, maybe make one of them Korean (16+ episodes) and the other Japanese/Taiwanese (which generally has less episodes). I think it makes the members feel less overwhelmed. This last session seemed to last forever!

I tried to keep up with 9 Ends 2 Outs but got so busy and since I'd already seen the episodes, I found myself not re-watching them. I found myself more eager to watch when it was a drama I hadn't seen yet (like Nodame or Love Shuffle). So this time I'm gonna try to vote for ones I haven't seen.

Excited for the next round!

Agreed, it's hard to fit a lot of extra episodes into a week! I know I couldn't keep up the last time. On the flipside, if the comm is watching them too slowly, it takes forever to get through a show. I'm curious to see how this poll turns out.

I think this idea has potential. Are you thinking we'd watch them both at once a week? Or is that just too slow for a kdrama?

You've given me a lot to think about. Thanks so so much, for thoroughly expressing your opinion and for the excitement! I really appreciate it. :)

Yeah, if people like the 2 shows at a time thing, then maybe a k-drama twice a week and a j-drama once a week. That way it'd even out a little. I think 3x/week isn't that much.

No problem. I love this community and what it tries to do. I miss watching dramas with people and hate that I've been so busy that I couldn't participate. Heh, I loved the Love Shuffle discussions and when everyone got all interactive.

Yeah, I think a lot of people have their countries of choice! I wouldn't want to alienate people either way: by having one round of voting be shows from only one country or by a country never being picked in the popular vote. :)

Just personally, I think I'm leaning towards two shows for that very reason. It might look overwhelming on people's flists but it's nice to have options. It's just when people want to participate in both that I think it's just too much.

As a n00b to doramas in general, I liked the balance of "bigger" and "smaller" shows a lot since I usually hadn't seen either and, like sykoryoko points out, I can always jump to the other show if one of them doesn't work out for me. But, hey, if we want to stick with just "smaller" shows, that's fine too since many of us will be discovering the drama together. :D

As a mod, I'm slightly biased towards watching "smaller" dramas just because I think more people might participate with shows that are new to them. Then you get the heady rush of new viewers falling in love. :) Though personally, I love anything that gives me to chance to rewatch shows. I'm a big rewatcher. This is why I need polls, I can see things both ways!

The only problem I had recently was in watching Coffee Prince I got so into it that I couldn't wait for the episodes week by week and watched them all ages in advance, and then had no-one to squee with at the time! XD

I like the balance of an old and a newer drama to watch, there are things I would love to wax nostalgic over (Hana Yori Dango, anyone? That was EPIC when I first watched it!). Possibly an idea could be to follow a drama that's currently/newly airing as the subs are released so that we're all experiencing it for the first time together? Of course a lot of factors would influence it - whether the subs were released in time, whether it sounded interesting to everyone, but as an experiment it could be fun?

P.S - I LOVE KDRAMAS <3

Hee, actually when mojotastic and I first talked over starting this comm, we excitedly concluded with "And then we could rewatch Hanadan at some point! Yesss!" So I'm conflicted, I think more people might participate with dramas they haven't seen before... but I want to watch Hanadan someday. XD I'm sure other people have their pet shows they'd love to rewatch too. Maybe the key is just switching things up more often... wait, I'll continue this idea on your other comment. :)

Yeah, that's occurred to me too! It seems a little... less specific to this comm? Something that people could post about anywhere? But I still think it would be fun to do here, just because it's fun to talk about things that are new and exciting. :)

As with everything I've suggested it's obviously all just suggestions on ways to spice things up and make sure we all get a variety that will hopefully work for everyone in the long run :) Because of course you want there to be participation in *your* comm. Even if it's tried once and if it doesn't work out you just move on!

I think HanaDan introduced so many of us to capslocking over dramas XD

And actually, while there are polls about - could another idea be to have a poll up each episode to rate it? That might be another way to get people involved in a different way - why they rated it the way they did, what worked for them, what didn't?

I'm gonna jump in and say that currently airing dramas sound fun. I mean, I guess there could be another community set up for that, but it would be nice to have a currently airing drama squee post.

But like topazera said in the comment below, maybe that would be better suited for another community? I wish I had awesome LJ skills and could set it up.
