BTW, Japanese Akira is played by Abe Hiroshi, not Matsuda Shota (Soujiro) :).

Thank you so much - I have updated the post! I was surprised by quite few things, mostly how popular Japanese HYD is. I liked the drama but it wasn't anything out of ordinary for me, I am more of "Meteor Garden" fan. But one the other hand, Japanese interpretation must be much closer culturally to the manga, right?

I am also surprised that Korean cast fared so well, even though HYD JApan is such a strong winner. Just shows - Korean drama can do pretty. :D

And may be the biggest surprise id that Jun Pyo did so well, I have seen so many Jun Pyo hate posts recently!! And I am so sad for Ji Hoo ** hugs Ji Hoo **

I'm surprised MG didn't do better as well, but then I suppose we have to take into account the audience; I've noticed that most of my flist and I think many of the members of doramachat tend to be Japanese-drama fans. But who knows?YAY for Oguri Shun winning! Hyun Joong is my current mad love and Vic Zhou was my first Asian actor love, but I think Oguri portrayed hte character the best overall. <3. Mm. he's so beautiful.

The rest doesn't surprise me very much at all except that Vanness Wu's Akira didn't get more love...I find the other two very meh. But I guess that's just me. And MG was the longest ago, what, almost 7 years by now? HYD and Korean hyd are both more recent, right?

This is what I thought too, I think many of dorama_chat members prefer Jdrama. I think I did a poll some time go (was it on dorama_chat or in my LJ?) and the results shown that not many fans prefer Korean drama.
This means even more YAY! for Ga Eul/Yi Jung pair! I am also quite surprsed that Jun Pyo did so well!

It seems that the unspoken rule of any adaptation is to choose an AWESOMELY GORGEOUS actor to play Rui. I love all three of them too.

Yep, I think the main problem of "Meteor Garden" is low production value,

This was interesting - I voted for about half Meteor Garden and half Hanadan. I didn't like the Korean version at all. It was just so... tame! My problem was deciding between Jerry Yan and Matsujun for my favorite interpretation of Domyoji... Lei from Meteor Garden was totally my favorite Rui, though...

I like Korean version, but not to the obsessive degree. "Mateor Garden" has a special place in my heart - it was the second EVER drama I watched. After that I already knew the storylines so liked JHYD in luke-warmish way. There is something about Matsujun that I find really ugly so the main couple in JHYD didn't hold much of my interest, I am shallow this way. :D .

One of the things I like about Korean BOF that they seem to have finally decided to develop Sojiro/Yuki relationship more. I always felt I need more between these two. (Also Jun Pyo is really hot )

BTW, totally unrelated - I have quickly gulped "Sudden, like a storm" and YUM YUM YUM Yamapi. :D Thank you for the rec!

You are a million times welcome! I loved it so much!!

I think the best thing was how realistic the emotions were between Yamapi and the OL. She knew it was just a crush but she couldn't help herself... (who could, he was adorable!) I like the ending, too - where she took the feelings that the crush dredged up and turned them into something useful. :)

I must say - put me in a situation like this I would not be able to help myself too, especially considering that her husband was a bit of a wash-out.

I was also SO glad that this drama wasn't about a terminal illness. YAY!
