Jrock Fans Revolution

Aug 09, 2009 18:19

First of all I'm going to state that this rant started because I believe it's not right to just blame fans around.
It often, if not always, takes out a lot of effort from us to support the bands we like.
So it's totally unfair to be threated in a bad way if other people are not good enough at making their job!!!.
Here we go...

Valid points, but you do need to remember Nathan's article wasn't really about Gazette, perhaps it would be best to send him the information about shipping fees and so forth, and the fact he is a totall twat for calling us all bad fans, and send this to PSC instead?

I took the Gazette as an example when he stated "bands who don't wanna tour internationally again".
Anyway, this post is meant to share thoughts and then I'm gonna write the official reply.

Fair enough. I still think someone should tell PSC where to stick it though.

lol
I plan to send the same msg not only to this guy or to PSC but to other labels as well because they are the real thieves not the fans or the bands

I totally agree with what you have written and I don`t know if I can add something else ... you just gathered all the ideas and everything that was said on gazette_media and posted it here .
That Nathan really deserves this after he treated us badly and called us `bad fans` . And he considers he is so superior to us .
I can`t say more than I agree with everything you said .

As I said to liraelx they have no right to say this to us.
For example they don't have problems about founding Oasis or Metallica's CDs in Japan, duh!
But we have problems about founding their CDs in our home countries
And now that I think about it, many times I hear my friends saying "I had to wait and buy the 2nd edition because the 1st one got sold out" and then he said sales are not high.
If they are not good doing their jobs, then why the hell are they complaining about us?
That's what's really unfair...

1. If you're a new band, please, please get yourself a steady fanbase to start with. Unless you're ViViD who got signed months before even releasing stuff, you will most likely not end up on even my trial list. How the Hell am I supposed to know you even excist when there's no previous-bands info, no nothing? Take Administrator for example - indies, quite unknown, but gaining fandom due to their two first songs open for public download right on their ohp AND the members' previous bands. Thinking you're THE shiz will be your downfall since not everyone loves the music you'll play. And complaining about expenses like that - if you're gonna bitch and moan about spending the money you'd have to invest to gain something in return, then just drop the idea of making a band while you're still ahead. It's a tough industry and only strong will, ability to adjust and most importantly, TALENT gets you to places ( ... )

Oh, and I felt absolutely mistreated with that article. I am a paying fan, don't you dare to accuse me of leeching when I pay for my originals! Not everyone only downloads >.<"

So very true...
I exchanged a few mails with a friend who's willing to co-operate at writing this letter.
So I'll use some of my "rants" and yours and add a few things my friend said and also akiha91 said.
Then she'll supervise it (she has experience in bzns communication) and then I'll send it.
What do you think?

Works for me. As long as we prove we actually CAN understand the struggle of the band to succeed and that not every fan is a cheapskate and is willing to pay for the item, I'm your accomplice.

One more thing I came to realize. It's the postal offices that charge this much for shipping, leaving the shippers with no other alternative other than forcing us to pay this much for shipping. The world's more and more expensive with each passing day, so are we to concider ourselves lucky to get things with that much amount when a month from now it might be even higher?

Real fans know the truth.
He doesn't because he's on the receiving side (bluntly said, he gets the money. Period).
I'm gonna use some of the things you listed in my letter.
This shamefull attack towards fans has to stop.

don't forget that newly started jrock fans have no idea where to get the items from until very much later

i agree with everything you've pointed out.
i can't think of anything to add right now but ill come back n post if i do.

but i think its great that your doing this.

you pointed out things in this that i didnt pay to much attention to before.

Even tho i know its true that illegal downloads happen, what pissed me off about the whole letter was that he was makin overseas fans out to be "bad fans".

i felt like he was devaluing the fans.

The first people to recieve new releases are the fans in JAPAN and he acts like they dont go and put things up on the internet too.

Regardless, the people in most control of a band's sales and experiences in foreign countries is the MANAGEMENT and how they are budgeting their money.

There are really sooooo many sides to this issue i didnt even know what to say in my comment on the original post.

But i really wish that bands and their managements would make an effort to at least UNDERSTAND why fans do these things instead of just saying "if you like it, you need to buy it".

I left a comment as a reply to one of the other comments in that post saying: why don't labels make contract with "zone shops"?
Let me explain: PSC gave the authorization to CLJRecords to sell in Europe CDs/DVDs of its bands.
This is why when I orderd my PSC 10th anniversary DVD I only paid 5 euros to get it from Germany (CLJRecords stock base) to Italy (where I live).
Why don't other labels do the same? And why PSC don't do the same in the States and in other part of Asia?
It's absurd to have to pay 20-30 euros for a CD/DVD then add other 30/40 euros to get it from Japan!!!!
Something that is totally missing also is information: fans don't always know where to buy stuff (being not only CDs but also magazines and so on)

i love that you are doing this.

do you remember how upset i was that i couldn't buy the psc 10th anniversary cd?

cd's from japan cant play in any form in the states.
i saved up all of my money, was just about to order it, then realized it wouldn't be playable .

it's not fair that he's attacking us and making me feel even MORE guilty for downloading.
i've tried to convert my friends to jrock but its not magic. its just not gonna happen.

i'm glad you pointed out that most fans are young .
i have no income, and can't afford to spend 16$ on every cd.
it's not my fault.

Oh yeah, that's an other big problem!
Because this way ppl in the U.S and other states like it will never be able to watch their DVDs, which is totally stupid cuz this way they'll never make more fans.
I've already started writing the letter, I already know it'll become super-long.
Then I'll have to find the mail addresses of most of the japanese labels *headdesk*
