Rosie O'Donell "plays" redarted. And she's pretty good at it, in the stereotypical 'oh yeah, that's that girl I stayed away from on the bus, 'cuz I just wanted to get to work on time'. I didn't see it, only commercials. But it's based on a book/true story. I remember reading about the book in the NYT Magazine section or book review section. Anyway... I'm not a Rosie O'Donnell fan and well, my cousin has worked as a special ed. teacher for over 10 years and has been bringing home students from the beginning... so I can't say I was impressed by the commercials. But like I said, I'm so not a Rosie fan.

I haven't read the book either, famous, but I understand from people who are posting on the TV Potluck boards on TWoP that the movie, and Rosie, didn't do it justice at all. As for the commercials...I tuned in precisely because they made me fall off the couch with laughter. That sounds mean, I know, but I wasn't laughing at so-called "retards", I was laughing at Rosie. Being sponsored by Hallmark, the movie went overboard on the whole "developmentally disabled people exist solely so that normal people who come in contact with them can find their humanity, and maybe...a boyfriend." Offensive. To everyone. Yuck.
