The word for a female spouse in most North Indian languages is "patni", which would translate to "Of the pati". "Pati", of course comes from the root word "paiti" (proto-Indo-European). "Pati" means (father-like, master) "lord" - rashtryapati, senapati, etc ( Read more... )
