I quite liked Val's "You don't just give up on someone because you - or they - think they're doomed! Especially if they're the crazy uncle!" speech. Combined with her later sulky mood, that makes me think she's might not be happy with what happened to her Uncle Doom.

Heh, yeah, I did think that talking about giving up on crazy uncles was an interesting place to choose to use the word 'doomed'. :)
