That's awesome! Mum and I have a running joke that we never follow a pattern completely, we always have to change something we don't like, but making a whole 3D structure from different patterns cobbled together is way beyond anything I can do. And I've tried to make my own patterns before and confidently start, only to realize a short way in I have no idea what I'm doing. I'm super impressed with your abilities. They look amazing!

Thank you!!

Yeah, that's definitely happened to me too. I don't think I can count the number of times I was following a pattern and made the thing but had to tweak what I was doing to have the final product be what it was supposed to.

Yeah, for us it's usually 'I don't like the border on this' or 'I think 2x2 ribbing looks nicer' and little tweaks like that. The closest I've done to making my own patterns is doing something to match other pattern, like making a cowl or a pair of mittens to match a hat I made, and that was more 'take this pattern for mittens and work out how to do the hat stitch on it' than coming up with something myself.

I've been learning Tunisian crochet, which I really love the technique of, but rarely like the finished result of anything. I enjoy the process of it, but I don't feel like what I make looks nice. I'd like to get to the point to be able to try to make up patterns to see if I can end up with something I'm happy with.

I find Tunisian crochet kind of fiddly. Maybe if I had true needles for it instead of just using really long regular crochet hooks I might like it more but I just never could get it to be anything work the amount of work it entailed. Regular crochet is a lot faster and more useful for what I want to make. I don't think I'd ever want to do any sort of big project using it.

But, I'm also in a NO BUYING NEW YARN ONLY USE STASH mindset this year so that's limiting what kind of projects I can take up. I have tons of yarn but after the various things I've finished this year it's now one skein of this, two of that....Not really sure what I'll decide to do next.
