Disclaimer: 100% fiction. Everything is as fake as plastic surgery! I owned nothing.

Beta: NONE! All mistakes are mine i.e. contained all sorts of mistakes i.e. grammar, tenses, timeline, logic, etc.

Author’s Note: This is only my 2nd attempt at a fanfic. Kind of failed miserably the first time.

*WARNING*: English is not my first language. I am trying. Please bear with me. I wanted to post a long time back but was afraid. Then, I told myself - WTH, just do it cause I had this whole story/idea in my head for so long.

Inspiration: Lyrics from The Scientist by Coldplay and Unintended by Muse. I ‘borrowed’ their lyrics for my story here because the lyrics fit freakily well in this fic. I hope I did not get into any copyright infringements trouble.

Special mention: Try to listen to Unintended by Muse and The Scientist by Coldplay to accompany the reading.

Summary: Kris and Adam started their relationship during their days at the mansion. Something bad happened to one of them just before Idol season ended. Post Idol, both tried to move on from the trauma but try as they might, they failed. No one told them it would be that hard.

CHAPTER 10

Adam’s phone was ringing. He picked it up - familiar caller ID! He smiled and then said, “Hey sweetheart!”

“Back at ya! Remember our appointment later for lunch?”

“Yeah yeah! Definitely! I need to see you before I leave for my tour! You know, I will miss ya so much!”

“Awww, that is so sweet, Adam! So, tell me - your much anticipated 2011 Glamfest World Tour, what have you got installed for your fans? Any surprises I need to know cause you’ll never know; I might attend one of the stops.”

“No shit! Are you serious, baby girl? You promised?”

“NO! Adam, I said maybe! Besides, I have my nationwide tour, you know! I’m not that free!”

“Yes, Miss Iraheta! I get that you are famous and busy and all that jazz! Anyway, why don’t we catch up later, ok. I need to go pick some clothes over at Cass and Brad’s store.”

“Alrighty! I’ll see you then! Don’t be late, princess! Matt will kill ya!”

“No, he won’t! Bye, baby girl!”

“Bye!”

Adam grabbed his car keys and headed out to his favorite coffee house to get some much needed caffeine.

………………………………………………………………………..

“Here you go, Adam!”

“Oh no! Steph, keep the change! You make the world’s best coffee! Just promise me that you will still be around when I come home after my tour.”

“Adam, that was very sweet of you. I can’t promise anything but I’ll try. Your world tour is pretty darn long, if you hadn’t notice!” She smiled and returned back to the other side for her next customer.

Adam smiled gently at his favorite barista as he took his drink and headed out the entrance. He is going to miss her coffee so much. He thought if he was a bona fide rockstar like Madonna or Paul McCartney, he would definitely hire her as part of his tour entourage. As he walked along the sidewalk, he smiled at his own silliness.

Then, something caught his eyes across the street. More appropriately, someone caught his eyes and he nearly dropped his coffee. He froze for a minute, staring. Something sparked in his brain and he dashed across the streets. Adam didn’t realize that he had actually moved until he saw that his favorite coffee house was now across the street.

He broke into a half run. When he finally caught up, he froze in his tracks.

“Kris?”

The man turned around.

This time, Adam actually dropped his coffee.

“Kristopher Allen?”

“Adam.”

Adam’s brain was trying to tell him a million and one thing, all at the same time. He blinked once, twice, three times and Kris was still standing in front of him. This is real. Holy shit. This is real.

“Kris?”

“Uh, Adam. That was your third time saying my name. …. Hi.”

Those brown eyes; those fucking gorgeous brown eyes are killing Adam. He felt his tongue was stuck on the roof of his mouth. He wanted to say so many things but all he managed was, “What are you doing here?” Adam mentally slapped himself.

“I, uh - I’m back in LA. I came back just yesterday.”

“For good?” Adam couldn’t stop staring at those brown eyes. He was not interested in their obvious awkward conversation. He just wanted to dash over to Kris and hug him like the world was ending.

“Uh, you could say that. I don’t know yet. I have a lot to sort out with, you know - Jive and 19.”

“Oh, okay.” Shit! Why was he even disappointed? What did he expect?

“Adam, you really recognized me from across the street?” Kris asked.

“I could recognize you from 20 storeys high.” Adam knew he said the wrong thing even before the words left his mouth.

Kris smiled and Adam felt for a moment like he was shocked by a megawatt of electricity. He mentally slapped himself again for acting like a teenage girl.

“Why 20 storeys?”

“I don’t know - just a metaphor. But wait, how did you know I came from across the street?”

“The Summer View Coffee House, your favorite coffee place. And the cup you were holding.” Kris said, his eyes darted towards the floor where Adam had dropped his drink.

“Oh, the cup.” Adam felt so stupid.

“It’s a pity you dropped your coffee.”

“Yeah, it’s a pity. Well, you can’t blame me. I mean, I thought I was hallucinating when I saw you. I - I just didn’t know …….”

“Didn’t know whether you will ever see me again?”

Adam pursed his lips and then, nodded. “Yeah, I didn’t know if this was even possible.”

“I’m sorry, Adam. I didn’t mean to surprise you like this. I knew I had to come back one day, at least to Arkansas; to see my family. Ironically, my parents sent me away when I got home …. They wanted me to return to LA.”

Adam had wanted to laugh at the adorableness of Kris’ parents.

“Adam. I meant to come and find you, I really did. I just didn’t know when. But looks like fate had other plans.”

“Uh huh.” Adam couldn’t stand it any longer. Why were they having a conversation standing by the fucking street with a fucking 3 feet distance between them after not seeing each other for almost 2 years?

Silence passed between the two.

Finally, Kris spoke. “Adam, I didn’t come back to - to, you know - interrupt your life or whatever. I just - I thought maybe if I could just drop by and say hi but I can understand - that you now … you have your own life now. I - I have no intentions whatsoever. Please understand. I - I knew I had to come back because making music is what I really wanted to do. I - I just wanted to do something with music, you know …. I have so much to tell, to express - from my experiences living in those countries. I just - you know ….. I wrote so much and I wanted so badly to record - you know …..”

“Shut up, Kris.” Adam blurted out. When he saw the shock and hurt on Kris’ face, he wanted to just hold him and tell him he didn’t mean that in a bad way.

“I, uh - I’m sorry. I can understand that you are mad …. you might hate me but  “

“Kris, stop talking.”

When Kris tried to open his mouth to speak again, Adam held up his hand to stop him. “Stop, just stop and listen.” Adam took a deep inhalation and said, “I do not hate you, okay? I love you. I - I am in love with you. Still.”

Adam could only imagine what was going through Kris’ mind after what he had just said.

Adam continued. “Maybe it was for the best when you left. Maybe it wasn’t. Who knows? The only regret I have was to actually listen to you, of what you wrote in the letter. I let you go. I didn’t come and find you.”

“Adam, it was for the best, for both you and I. There is nothing to regret about. You didn’t let me go. I just couldn’t hold onto the rope anymore. I was slipping away and I didn’t want to pull you down with me. I hurt you by hurting myself. I didn’t realize I was being so selfish.”

“Maybe all those things do not matter anymore.”

“Maybe …. maybe …….I - uh, I know this is not the best time for me to talk about it but I want to tell you that I am not sick anymore.”

That was the best thing Adam had ever heard in a very long time. “That’s - that is just… great, Kris! I mean, I’m so proud of you.”

“I had help.”

“I’m sure you did but I think for the most part, you helped yourself. When you left, I didn’t know what to do. I felt like it was my fault - that I was not there for you, like I drove you away and …”

“Maybe all those things do not matter anymore. Your words!”

Adam chuckled. “Yeah, maybe.”

“What will happen now, Adam?”

Adam realized he was staring hard at Kris again. He thought something about Kris has changed but he couldn’t tell what it was. But no matter what, he still looked beautiful to Adam.

“I don’t know, Kris. But we’ll figure it out. Eventually. We will figure it out. I know that.”

Kris nodded as he dropped his gaze to the floor.

“Kris?”

“Uh-huh?”

“I am leaving for my tour tomorrow. I just - I really think fate was trying to tell me something. If I didn’t spot you today across the street, I would probably not - not see you again, ever. Not that I won’t be returning from my tour but I’ll be gone for a period of time and a lot could happen in between. What if ….…..”

“But I’m here. I’m standing right in front of you now. No more ‘what ifs’.”

Adam took in a deep breath. “Kris, can I ask you something?”

“Yeah?”

Adam took a few steps to close the distance between them. He brought up his hands cautiously and held on Kris’ elbows. “Can I hold you?” Adam pleaded.

Kris smiled and nodded.

When he held Kris tight in his arms, Adam felt like the world could end and he wouldn’t even give a shit. He gently put his hand on the back of Kris’ head and pushed it against the curve of his neck. He took in the familiar scent of Kris. He would never want to let go, ever again.

“Adam?” Kris said, voice muffled against Adam’s shoulder.

“Yeah?”

“I missed you.”

“Me too … me too.”

Kris lifted his head and started to pull away. Adam could really see those gorgeous brown eyes now. They were wet with tears. He reached up and touched his face, cupping both side of Kris’s cheeks with his hands. He used his thumb to wipe away his tears.

“And uh, Adam?”

“Hmmmm?”

“I never stopped loving you. I could never do that.”

“I know. I know.”

Adam’s hands slid down to Kris’ elbows and then, to his wrists. He pulled him closer and kissed his forehead. Kris tilted his head a little to look up at Adam. “You do realize we are still standing in the streets.”

“Do you think I give a fuck?” Adam smiled as he leaned in to kiss Kris on the lips. He kept it gentle and light but he kept it long. Adam had forgotten how Kris tasted like. He felt Kris smiled against his mouth. He didn’t think he could ever stop kissing him now.
