Whistler's found that the unease he still feels in the Bar is dispelled by working on things that he enjoys, or by Suzi's company. Right now, so far as he knows, Suzi's downstairs and Joy needs puppysitting. Thus, he's in the room nearest the stairs, installing the sound-control hack circuitry in another CD player. She's a spoiled puppy, but the end result is much the same. When Suzi comes in, she moves straight for Whistler and wraps her arms around his chest from the back, resting her chin on his shoulder. He has plenty of warning to put things down before she's there.

The bells are the first sign, but-

Well, she only hits that stride length when she's upset or disturbed, so he puts his tools aside and reaches up to cover her hands with his own. He'll lean into her a little, too, although he suspects she's going to be leaning on him a lot more.

As he concentrates on I'm here, it's okay, whatever it is feelings he murmurs, "What's wrong, Suzi?"

"Someone, um." Deep breath, "Today the bar brought a Gen. Ilyana ambrov Rior. She's, um. She's not Bound." She is leaning against him, although eventually she moves around to his lap.

The word means very little. It just gives him time to think.

"Is she anybody you know?"

He'll put his arms around her waist and hold her as soon as that happens.
