Jared_central2's Jared's Bday Exchange. I'm extremely nervous but hopefully this will be something she enjoys! Thanks for being so patient with me. Also, this is a future!fic (and Kid!fic) so I know Jared's not 30 yet. Just play along with me.
Summary: Jensen and the kids make Jared his favorite breakfast as a special birthday treat.
~*~*~
Jensen doesn’t claim to be a great cook but he won’t argue that he’s way more capable of feeding their family than Jared is-which doesn’t say much. But to hear Jared speak, one would think Jensen’s the best cook in the world. It’s more like Jared has a soft spot for anyone that would still make him chocolate chip pancakes at the age of thirty.
He doesn’t mind though, in fact Jensen actually enjoys being the one in charge of meals. Mostly because he knows they’d be eating takeout every night if he wasn’t. But he loves when they all sit down at the table to enjoy a family meal that’s filled with way more talking than eating.
So Jensen’s grown accustomed to getting up early and making breakfast, but only on special occasions and sometimes when he feels like being nice for no reason. Otherwise he’d still be in bed with Jared-sleeping for as long as they can before they actually have to get up and do something productive.
But today is one of those special occasions, which means no time for sleeping in. Instead, he reluctantly forced himself out of bed at six-thirty this morning and even made sure to let the dogs out to avoid waking Jared. So when the floorboards above his head creak and it’s only nine, he knows it’s too early for Jared and that can only mean one thing.
His sous-chefs are finally awake.
Jensen finishes off his coffee and places the paper back down on the counter before heading out of the kitchen. He meets the twins at the bottom of the stairs as they barrel into him and nearly knock him to the floor but luckily he’s prepared.
“You two didn’t wake Daddy did you?” He asks quietly as he guides them into the kitchen.
“We were really quiet,” Gabby answers in her best whisper as she holds her arms up so Jensen can lift her into her seat.
“We smelled pancakes,” Joey chimes in, sticking his nose out and sniffing the air.
“I haven’t even started cooking them yet.” Jensen laughs and reaches out to tweak his son’s nose before lifting Joey up into the other stool at the breakfast bar.
Joey most definitely shares Jared’s love for all the wrong foods and just about everything and anything that will leave you with a mouth full of cavities. He figures it’s only fair considering Joey looks almost exactly like Jensen, freckles and all. It amazes Jensen how their kids have all the good and a bit of the bad from both he and Jared. It’s something Jensen never thought possible.
They have their sisters to thank for the miracle.
Megan and Mackenzie had come up with the idea and even fought over who would have the honors. But in the end Mackenzie had won the role of egg donor-to Jared's sperm-and surrogate mother of the now five-year-old twins. And a day doesn’t go by that Jensen and Jared don’t think about how lucky they are to have two wonderful kids that are both biologically a Padalecki-Ackles.
Jensen loves watching their children grow, seeing Jared and himself in everything they do or say. He loves that Gabby has Jared’s gorgeous hair but Jensen’s green eyes and he loves that Joey has his smile but Jared’s laugh. He loves that they both have Jared’s dimples but Jensen’s long eyelashes. He loves that they’re his, that he can raise them with the man he loves.
“Papa?” Gabby tugs on the hem of his shirt, wide eyes watching him closely. “Can we cook now?”
He pushes his thoughts aside to reflect on again later and smiles down at his beautiful little girl, running his hand through her curly hair. Today they are on a mission. There’s no time for Jensen to admire the wonderful life he has, at least not yet, not until the pancakes are made.
The twins eagerly help him as much as they can and Jensen doesn’t even stop them from sneaking a few handfuls of chocolate chips as he flips the pancakes on the skillet. By the time they finish, the kitchen is a mess but they’ve got almost two dozen hot chocolate chip pancakes and a fresh bottle of syrup ready to go.
Jensen figures it won’t be long before the aroma finally wakes Jared-assuming that their not so quiet preparations haven’t already. So he helps the twins out of their seats and together they quickly set the dining room table before heading up stairs to wake the guest of honor.
With Gabby and Joey behind him, Jensen slowly pushes open the door to his and Jared bedroom just enough to peek inside. When he sees the lump beneath the blankets and the messy hair sticking out at the top, he pushes the door open all the way and waves the kids inside.
In seconds, two screaming five-year-olds are pouncing on the bed and effectively waking a very surprised Jared.
“Happy Birthday, Daddy!” The twins yell in unison.
Jensen stands back against the doorframe and watches as Jared pulls Gabby and Joey into one of his big bear hugs, placing a sloppy kiss on each of their cheeks. The sound of laughter fills the room as Jared rolls them over and tickles their tummies before falling back down and giving them the chance to fight back with their own tickling. Jensen knows damn well that Jared’s only ticklish in one spot and even though the kids haven’t found it, Jared’s still squirming on the bed as he weakly fights off their attack.
“As much as I hate to break up the fun,” Jensen calls over the loud laughter as he pushes off from the doorframe and towards the bed. “But breakfast is getting cold.”
Jared sits up and holds his hands in the air. “Okay, Okay. You two win. I will surrender for food.”
The twins cheer and hop up onto their feet so they can bounce on the mattress. Jensen shakes his head and snags Gabby into his arms, taking her with him as he leans down to place a warm kiss to Jared’s lips. The kiss only lasts a few seconds before Joey barrels himself into Jared, knocking them both flat on the bed.
“That’s it,” Jared warns with a teasing smile as he throws the covers back and grabs Joey in one arm, holding the boy upside down. “I’ll deal with you later, but now we eat.”
Jensen sets Gabby back down onto the ground and Jared does the same with Joey, both kids squealing as they run off into the hall and back down the stairs. He takes in the silence for just a second before turning toward Jared and wrapping his arms around his husband’s waist.
“Happy Birthday, Jay.” He places a few gentle kisses along Jared’s shoulder and up his neck before finally finding Jared’s lips. This time he holds Jared close, his tongue claiming Jared’s mouth.
“Wow,” Jared whispers when they finally break apart. “What a way to wake up.”
“Well it is a special occasion.” Jensen lets his hands slide to Jared’s ass, giving it a quick squeeze before he pulls away and turns toward the door. “It’s not every day the man you love turns thirty.”
“Yeah, I remember how that felt four years ago, old man.” Jared reaches out to slap Jensen’s ass in return but pulls back when Jensen turns around. He quickly adds, “But we both age well.”
“Nice save.”
“Thanks,” Jared laughs, grabbing Jensen’s hand and tugging him forward again as his laughter fades and his tone becomes more affectionate. “Thank you, Jen.”
“I haven’t even given you your present yet.”
“You’ve given me all I could ever ask for.”
Jensen feels the warmth in his chest and he clears his throat, trying to get rid of the lump that suddenly forms. This life, their life, is all either of them ever wanted and Jensen thanks God every day for giving him the chance to have this wonderful family.
It’s completely sappy but true.
He places one last kiss to Jared’s lips before heading for the door again. “So you didn’t ask for chocolate chip pancakes then?”
“I knew I smelled pancakes!” Jared’s face lights up with excitement and he places a quick kiss on Jensen’s cheek before rushing out of the room like a kid on Christmas morning.
Not many thirty-year-olds would request chocolate chip pancakes-at least not without feeling embarrassed-but Jensen likes that about Jared. Heck, he’ll make them every July 19th if it means making the overgrown kid happy. After all, Jensen’s kind of a sucker for those dimples.
The End.
