[The feed kicks in to the sound of a man clearing his throat. He seems a little unsure of what he's about to say.]

Hullo, hullo. Welcome newcomers.

[Man, what a classy intro that was. So smooth, Joseph!]

For those of y'that I haven't met, my name is Joe. I man the kitchen here and I'm the one that put together the shit-awful feast you had on your ( Read more... )

[The feast wasn't that bad to Bryn, but then she hadn't had soup or bread in a few years now. Absence made the stomach not so picky.

That the food could be better was something that held Bryn's interest.]

I don't know how to cook at all but I could learn or wash dishes if it would help.

[Oh hello Miss... Joe smirks at the comm.]

If y'want, you can come and check the place out and we'll see what suits ye to do.

[But the prospect of a dishwasher, anda willing one at that? God that sounds wonderful.]

What's yer name, lass?

I can do that...if you'll tell me where it is.

[Hi, Bryn has no idea how to find her way around here still.]

You can call me Bryn.

[It pops out a bit more easily this time than with Isabel or Sycora. Joe doesn't exactly make her feel obligated to give a formal reply.]

And yourself?

Right. Directions.

[It's been a while since he's had to give them.]

You remember the Great Hall where we had our pitiful feast meet and greet session?

[Joe might have been asleep for most of it...]

First floor of that buildin'. You can't miss it. Lemme know if I need to narrow it down better than that.

No that narrows it down quite a bit. I can probably find it from there. I'll be there soon.

[Barring getting lost or too turned around to find it.

Bryn toys with the page of her journal before shutting the book. She clutches it tightly as she locks up behind her and heads to the Great Hall. From there it's simply a matter of following her nose to the kitchens.

She knocks on the door tentatively and then pushes it over to peek inside.]

Hello?

[When the pretty blonde sticks her head around the door Joe grins. It's been a while since they've had anyone but staff around the Keep and girls are always a good thing in Joe's opinion.]

Ah, y'found me. Good work.

[Wiping his hands on a dishcloth, the Irishman starts towards her and offers a hand to shake.]

Joseph Ivers, at yer service.

[It's a bit odd to have such focus on her again and to interact with people one-on-one. It happened so rarely at home, and even less after she left. She bobs her head once in a bit of a nod and smiles, taking his hand and giving it a shake.]

I'm Bryn. It's nice to meet you, Mr. Ivers.

[Her gaze keeps skittering away from his as she takes in the sights of the kitchen. It's easier than holding eye-contact with the charming man.

To the untrained eye, it appears immense and full of things that Bryn couldn't even begin to put a name to.]

I've never seen a kitchen area so large before...

[He cringes when she addresses him as 'Mister Ivers' and shoots her a slightly pleading look.]

Ach, just Joe will do, lass. Formality and I have never really got along so let's just keep it simple, aye? And no 'Sir' either. Got enough of that in the military to last me a lifetime.

[The smile creeps back onto his face as he looks back to the kitchen. It's twice the size of the last place he worked at and far more looked after. He's done a lot of work to it in the time he's been at the Keep, and right now Joe can feel nothing but pride.]

Ain't it a beauty?

[He runs a hand across the top of one of the long benches. The kitchen is made of up two large benches central with more benches lining the walls. There's pots and pans and an excellent collection of knives and a large double sink. Over a fire brews a large pot of, goodness knows what but doesn't it smell delicious?]

[Oh, oops. Bryn just can't seem to get it right with the staff, can she? She nods her agreement, looking somewhat sheepish. Habits were hard to break.]

Sorry. Of course, Joe.

[She follows his hands as he runs them over the benches, and continues past to the walls, allowing herself a chance to get a more thorough look. Some items are recognizable at second glance, though she wouldn't begin to know what they're for or how to use them.]

It's quite impressive. I wouldn't know the first thing about how to keep it all straight. Do you...do you suppose it would be easy to learn a few things here or there? Something helpful?

[She'd like to learn to cook but the last thing she wants to do is get in the way and become a hindrance.]

[He grins and lifts himself to sit on the corner of the bench.]

If you want to learn to cook, Bryn, all y'got to do is ask.

[She looks around the kitchen once more, to the left, to the right, then back to Joe. Her hesitance is clear and she hedges around an affirmative answer.]

It wouldn't be too much trouble would it?

[Joe watches her with interest. Bryn wouldn't be the first shy apprentice he's had over the years.]

Not a problem at all, lass. If anything, you learnin' to cook is something I should be thanking you for. With this many people in the Keep, doin' all this on my own is more work than I can manage.

[At least without a proper nights sleep beforehand.]

[It makes her smile to think she could be helpful, and doing something she wants as opposed to simply being someone else's chess piece.

Pleased, she offers a smile.]

Well if you're sure, then I'd love to learn, especially if I can be of some use...is there a specific time when it would be best for me to come in?

There's always a lot goin' on before breakfast and dinner but any other time is good fer learnin' basics. Once we get that down yer welcome to join in on the mail meal makin'.

[Joe is pleased to have an apprentice again.]

Then, maybe after breakfast tomorrow I could come back? Better in the morning I think before I get tired...

[Handling knives and hot pans while getting sleepy doesn't seem smart, all things considered.]

Breakfast rush isn't as hardcore as Dinner. Sounds like a good place to start if you ask me.

[He smiles at her and then asks the fated question.]

So uh... how's life in the Keep goin' for ya so far? Settlin' in well? No one givin' you any trouble I hope.
