[Audio]

You’ve got to be shitting me. Once wasn’t enough? I’ve got to be uprooted from my life and shoved into some place with people in charge who are claiming it’s for my own good but really they don’t give a fuck twice? Or is this actually the place people go when they’ve been ‘rehabilitated’? Because I’ve gotta say, I prefer the facility. At least ( Read more... )

arrival, audio, wtf is this

[Yeah he wasn't listening to most of that. One thing did catch his attention though.]

You've got a shop?

Normally I'm patching their stuff together, not them. Hopefully everything won't fall apart with me gone.

[Oh he's more than happy to sweep that bit under the rug.]

Already forgotten.

Just as important. Got a friend who'd probably rather I patch his damn car up over him, if he had to choose. And yeah. You and me both. Not sure some of them'll know how to deal with even scraped knees without me.

[Which is only mostly an exaggeration, considering she's actually healed a few before.]

M'Ryn, by the way.

Not sure how any of them fixed their equipment before I showed up.

[Not that he's complaining really. He loves being useful. In fact having no job here is driving him mad.]

I'm Zachariah, nice to meet you.

Terribly, probably. You showing up likely saved them from a fate of using horribly patched equipment forever.

[Oh, she's complaining. But she loves being useful, too, and it probably won't be long before she starts trying to find something to do.]

I'd be lying if I said 'you, too,' but it's as nice as it can be, given the circumstances.

Must be why they rescued me in the first place.

[Zachariah kicked himself for that stupid comment. Of course it wasn't nice. Since when was getting kidnapped ever nice?]

Right, that's...yeah um, sorry. That was kind of stupid for me to say.

Must be. Hell, if I knew a guy would be fixing all my crap for me, I'd be all over rescuing him.

[Or recruiting him into the Sins, but same difference. She's figuring he doesn't mean 'rescue' in the figurative sense, but she's not going to ask about it. Likely not something he wants to be talking about, either.

Then she gives a soft, amused snort at his response.]

Nah, it was the polite thing to say. I've just never been good at doing the polite thing. T'be honest, I wasn't expecting an apology. Most of those I said that to last time just got mad at me for being rude.

[She can't see it, but his face turned a bit red from her comment.]

I um...thanks. Just like being helpful.

[He chuckled.]

It takes a lot to get under my skin. You're no worse than one of my friends.

Me, too. Like people who like being helpful more, though. They're always so damn handy to have around.

[Particularly when they're new recruits, and she can get them to do things.

His chuckle gets a grin.]

You must know how to pick good friends, then.

If I can help make someone's life a little better than I've done my job.

[Beats having to kill someone to survive by a landslide.]

Yeah, I guess I do. Or maybe they just know how to pick me.

You're one of those types, then, selflessly help the helpless and all that shit? Never seems to work for me, I've been told my bedside manner's not cut out for it. I'm more the type to be helping someone when I can get something out of it.

[Her tone is cheerful, though it may not be clear that she's mostly joking. That's pretty much a complete lie; however much she grips about patching her Sins up, she always does it without a second of hesitation.]

Nah. You should definitely be taking the credit. Knowing how to pick your friends is a damn good skill to have.

I've just got things I've got make up for, and it comes with job description I guess.

[Fighting to topple a dictator for the people is pretty up there on the list of selfless things to do.]

Maybe, they just seem to find me more than I find them.

[And that definitely strikes a chord with her. Yeah, she's knowing exactly how that feels. It's similar for her.]

A lot of people I know are like that, the things they're doing now shaped by the things they've done in the past. It can be - difficult, at times. How's it working out for you?

[She smiles a bit.]

Suppose being able to attract the good kind of friends is an equally good skill. Could probably be said most of mine found me, as well.

Okay I guess, just wish I could do more though.

Yeah, I guess it is.

[Though how a broken mess like him attracts anyone he'll never know.]

Sounds familiar. I think most of them feel that way.

[Or, you know, her. But she's not saying that.]

That'll probably be me in this fucking place, considering my way of making a living is pretty much obsolete.

Well there's a smithy around here that I'm trying to get up and running. Probably some other things around here that could be fixed up too. If you look around I bet you'll find something.
