Another one of my "late at night having just watched a movie and need to scrawl down some reactions immediately" posts.
200C MACBETH. FUCK, that was a good movie. I mean, maybe it's just that it's the only film version I've seen of it (or the only full-length anything of it post reading/understanding the play).

Also, the Olivier Richard III and Polanski Macbeth are both pretty heavily adapted -- there's a tendency not to think of them that way because they're done in period dress, but Olivier especially cuts things and rearranges things and imports things from other adaptations. So I don't think it's necessary to think of them as any more authentic than, say, McKellen's Richard III, even assuming authenticity is something to strive for in productions (and that by "authenticity" we mean "period accuracy").

As for it not being Ian McKellan, the actor playing Mac was Sam Worthington (you may have seen him in a recent popular fantasy movie: he was blue), who was alright, but can't hold a candle to IM.
Hmm. I suppose "original" wasn't the word I was looking for, it was "authoritative". (Like, supposedly Olivier's Richard III is the greatest interpretation of any Shakespeare character ever.)

And I totally just realized that the plot of the Mirrorverse in TOS before main-verse!Kirk and co. arrive and after they leave kind of reads like a version of Macbeth... in space. I'd write it, but it almost doesn't need to be written, it's that obvious.

Oh my god, so much this. Spock can be Macduff, Bones can be Banquo, rainbow floaty thing chick can be Lady M, Chekov can be Malcolm, Pike obvs is Duncan... this is absolutely fantastic. If you're not going to write it, I am. XD

It's so obvious, I'm wondering if anyone else has realized how perfectly it fits.

Not a phrase I ever expected to hear in a Macbeth-related context. XD
