{Ace is restless and unable to sleep, so instead he clicks on his communicator. He begins flipping through the frequencies to see if anyone else is up at this hour. [The weight of Ace's arm, the warmth... his heart is all but ready to break from that relatively small gesture. This kind of gentle kindness is more than he's even had the luxury to experience, not just during the last few months but in his entire life. Physical contact, a simple hug or a hand on his shoulder - all of it was so rare to come by that he all but forgot what it's supposed to feel like.

He's not sure what to do and so he does nothing, just sits there while the sobs tear through his body. It's difficult to breathe and very undignified but right now he doesn't even care.

After a few minutes they finally fade and die out but he doesn't lift his head just yet. A little longer, just a few more seconds and then he can go back to being a big strong man. ]

{He can completely relate to this kid. So he sits there quietly and lets you get it out, drifting off into his own memories. It hurts a little to hear you so distraught, but at the same time... it's all the thanks he needs. This is a bittersweet moment.

As you quiet down he lets go, placing a hand on top of your head to ruffle that hat.}

[There's no limit to the gratitude he's feeling right now - not just for the food and comfort but also for the fact that the other isn't making a big deal out of this. Even now with his eyes red and his throat sore he's allow to pretend that he's stronger than this and that means absolutely everything.

Another quiet sniffle as he brings up a hand to wipe at his eyes. He's fine, he's alright, just a little shaky still. Exhausted but at least he's good enough to eat.

Lifting his head a little he gives a slow nod, instinctively going for the piece of bread. It was the last thing he ate and it's only fitting that it will also be the first.]
