I'm not so sure. It made a lot more through international release and more so home video. Also the name carries a lot of weight. And let's not forget Hollywood illogic!
Boxofficemojo says < $3M worldwide, including the original and Director's Cut releases. Of course, that number ignores DVD sales, but I still doubt anyone will be REALLY convinced to fund this to the tune of $10M. Maybe a direct-to-video release.
According to IMDB it made £1.5M (US$3M) in the UK alone for the Director's Cut. And there have been plenty of films with much bigger budgets and lack of return.
Not that I don't hope they realise what a monumental mistake they're making, artistically speaking.
