Happy New Year, everyone! And: The great yuletide reveal!

Jan 02, 2005 11:36

I wrote my first Discworld fic, Mostly Human, aided by my wonderful betas rosina_alcona (who's probably still recovering from Hogmanay, eh?) and soawen. I'm reposting it here because I didn't figure out how to format the footnotes in the Yuletide archive ( Read more... )

fandom: discworld, my fics, genre: gen, character: susan sto helit, character: havelock vetinari, fanfics

Hee, I've now read my first Discworld fic! That was fabulous, and you have the footnotes just spot on *dies*

Heh! I didn't know you read Pratchett, too! I feel very honoured indeed that this is your first Discworld fic. That way, we've experienced our initiation together :-)

The footnotes were great fun. The long one I had written before I knew where I was going with the story at all.

What I love most about yuletide? Reccing good stories without knowing who the authors are. *g*

Yes, that's certainly part of the appeal *g*

I have all ready told you that I love this! How much more do I have to grovel before you write that Vetinari/Granny?

Away with ye', ye' evil temptress!

Vetinari/Granny needs a solid basis. They wouldn't simply rut all over one another in some corner. Hmm... You know, I'd really like to try writing a fully-fledged NC-17 fic in Pratchett's style *is scared*

*snickers* Because the aphrodisiac that could rid Granny of her inhibitions would make the Patrician spontanously combust, or because Wuffles is his One True Love?

o.O Imagine the footnotes to NC-17 Pratchett?! You're braver than I thought...

Oh, very well done! I can't believe how Pratchett-like this is - the language, the structure, the puns, the absolute silliness. I love Push the Wizard In the Ankh (and REALLY love "But Very Respectfully So"). And the idea of Things Not To Be Interested In - a very useful concept! And Susan respecting Vetinari: Yes. Absolutely. (Now there's a possible OTP.)

I almost never read anything outside of HP - I am so glad I made an exception for this.

Heh! Thank you! I feel very honoured that you did read it in spite of it's not being HP.

Coming up with the silly puns was great fun. I bet that's why Pratchett is so prolific: he needs to get the silliness out of his system. Coming up with the name of the game, however, took me ages; it was eventually inspired by a really existing game called "Beat the neighbours out of doors". I'm sure the wizards would pointedly not insist on the (But Very Respectfully So).

I grew quite fond of Susan/Vetinari myself. But soawen insists that Granny/Vetinari is just as probable, and Very Very Scary to boot.

SQUEEE! I love this! I didn't know you were interested in Discworld!!! Unfortunately I absolutely didn't get the HP referrence and would like it spelt out to me :p

And your Pratchett voice is so strong i want to push you in the Ankh myself *is green with jealousy* His style is definitely not easy [/understatement]

K, if you want to write more Vetinari, Vimes, Susan, Death and Granny are my fave characters (just a hint). Oh, also love Greebo (or lust, that's more accurate) Any slash? Not that it's a fandom that lends itself to it much. Vetinari/Vimes I like but also love Sybil so it would be a problem...

* Your footnotes killed me

Oh, I am interested in Discworld all right! The HP reference was "To the well-organised mind, death is but the next great adventure" - Dumbledore's, ah, wise words to Harry in PS.

Trying out the Pratchett voice was great fun. You can get all the silly puns out of your system. And yes, I did laugh at my own puns ;-)

I also happen to like Vetinari, Susan, Death and Granny. I do like Vimes, but not quite as much as the other four. soawen tries to make me write Vetinari/Granny, but I need to wrap my mind around the concept first. Since "Going Postal", my crush on Vetinari has grown rapidly, though, and I want to see more of him.
