Background:
Lee Donghae was, simply put, an accident. His father, a little overwhelmed with work and getting on in his years, had partaken in a sorted affair with a young intern at his international trading firm. The young woman conceived a child, the man paid her well to hide the truth, his wife (simply to protect the family honor) went away to France, and nine months later the couple announced that their second son was born. Both swore that no one would never know the truth; especially not Donghae.

With that, the boy grew up knowing nothing of his real mother. His father cherished the boy. Donghae's outgoing personality and crazy antics even from a young age made the business man jump with joy. Clearly Donghae would make a wonderful addition to the family business. The woman who Donghae thought was his mother treated him as her own son, almost even better than her biological son. His elder brother was told never to say anything and while he was cold toward the younger boy, Donghae assumed that was mostly because of their significant age difference. In reality, it was a jealousy over how their parents seemed to favor the younger boy.

All his life Donghae assumed he would be helping his brother take over the family business. Donghae's grades were mediocre in school, but there was no doubting he tried his very best at every turn. No doubt through generous donations was he admitted to a fine university where he worked hard to manage his grades and the internship he was given at the family business. Everything was looking up for the young man.

It happened quite suddenly for most of the Lee family, as a call arrived one evening when Donghae was at home with his mother, just barely twenty years old. Mr. Lee collapsed in his office, apparently suffering from a heart disorder that doctors had warned him about over a year before. That night the patriarch of the family passed away. It was assumed right away that the elder boy would take over where is father left off and so he did in the days leading up to when the will would be read.

Everything changed the day the will was read, in a room with just the two sons and the new widow present. Mr. Lee hadn't named his eldest son as the main heir, but Donghae. Reasons were never made completely clear, but needless to say the elder boy felt cheated. It didn't take him long to sell his stocks and abandon his mother and younger brother completely.

Needless to say, Donghae stepped up to the plate, taking over the best he could and focusing on finishing his studies. Lost in meetings with the shareholders, press conferences, trips abroad and those ever pressing studies, the next few years of Donghae's life didn't really allow him to build any friendships or romantic relationships. Once graduated, however, there came endless pressure from his mother to date.

Time restraints keeping him from being able to keep an actual girlfriend, Donghae turned to Arirang Manor. If he went out with a few girls here and there he'd both appease his mother and be able to find a little relaxing time for himself, no strings attached.

This is clearly a win-win situation.

Personality:
As a child Donghae was insanely quirky, energetic and random. No matter where he was or what he was doing he was the life of the party. Other people often fed off of his energy and he loved it. He was almost always getting into trouble; trouble his elder brother usually bailed him out of. Never one to be stupid, per say, he was a bit air headed from time to time and still, to this day, is so despite the fact that he would hate to admit it.

The grown Donghae, however, is a business man and he remembers this. Most of the time he has a serious look on his face. That infectious smile is harder to coax out of him now than it was when he was younger, though it's still possible.

There was always a sense of adventure embedded into Donghae and that's never really faded. The way he expresses it has simply changed from climbing trees in the backyard or jumping into his mother's koi pond and into taking random trips abroad or going skiing with some business acquaintances. The thrill that comes with things like speed and the unknown set him on fire.

Donghae has always been passionate, sometimes overly so. Even little things are important to him. Whenever he is working on something, he throws his whole heart into it. For him, it's the same with relationships. Often he will pour all of himself into a person, whether romantically or on a friendlier level.

tl;dr on the background:
- Illegitimate child of a very successful business man; still doesn't know this
- Named the heir to his father's company when said father passed away, making his half brother very angry
- Spends most of his time working
- Trying to make his mother happy by 'dating' hostess from the manor
