Table for all tables Summary: Bridget tells her friend about her latest dream.
"You know that I don't like Maharet." Bridget said to Tracey.
"Yeah, you told me. So what about her?"
"Last night I dreamt about her."
"And…" Tracey was curious.
"I had to go home to her, and I had no say about it. I never felt like that before. The house stood in the shadows, the windows dark. I wasn't alone, because all around the house there sat what seemed to be an endless number of cats. Even weirder, they all sat facing the house. Somehow I found a way through them to the front door. On the porch were even more cats. Those that sat in front of the door moved when I opened it. They even waited for me to enter. Then, like the silent predators they were, they spread out in the house. Something made me stay silent as I checked the rooms."
Tracey was silent, not giving any sign that she wanted to interrupt.
So Bridget continued, "With a old house like hers you would think the floorboards would creak, but somehow either I missed them or I was too light. It was deadly silent. I couldn't understand why the cats were still, not so many of them. They continued to fill the house. They were not only on the floor, but every free spot seemed to have a cat. I didn't find anything on the ground floor. I felt that I wasn't finished, so I went to up the stairs and started walking up. Despite the cats, I found space to place to put my feet. Reaching the top step, I heard a sound."
Bridget made a pause.
"The sound was like knirr, knarr. I couldn't figure out where it came from. All I knew was that it wasn't any of the cats. The first two rooms were empty. So was the bathroom. I reached the last room on the left. The door was closed, but the knirr, knarr sound was louder, so there was definitely something in there. I could see my hand stretch out, turn the door knob and open the door. As it swung open the cats started to meow. It took me by surprise… so I woke up."
When Tracey understood that Bridget had told her whole dream she asked, "Didn't you see what was in the room?"
"No. I didn't have a chance to see. The alarm woke me."
"Sure. Maharet is strange and might be called so, but if the cats in the dream were hers she seemed like a crazy cat lady."
"It was like most of the cats were hers, but what does it matter? It was weird and why would I dream it? Also she does have some cats in real life. All I hope is that the dream won't come back or turn real."
"If so I would have wanted to know why all cats were drawn there and what made the sound."
"Me too, as a story it might be exciting."
Because Bridget didn't like Maharet, she changed subject. It was just a dream, but she felt good to have told it to her friend.
