my grandfather used to work in the copper mines in chile. he was the liaison between the US engineering company and the local workers. it was a common practice (although he said he only had to do it once) to "hobble" the unproductive workers by shooting them in the foot. and he didn't even get paid any extra for that!

possibly, but he's big into conspiracy theories these days. now that i think of it, a little paranoia might come in handy. hopefully, his age won't preclude him from obtaining a hand gun license.
