I'm Sure It's Just Me

Does anyone else ever pause in the middle of a chapter revision, look at it, and go "what the hell am I doing?" even though the revisions themselves actually seem to work?

I do this.

Which probably only points how how insecure and neurotic an author I am. :P

Hi, it's Loretta. Lest you think I'm lurking, I thought I'd stop in and comment - hope you don't mind. No... it's not just you! Worse is when you've spent the whole day revising something and you go to sleep patting yourself on the back, and the next day you wake up, look at it, and wonder what you could have been thinking.

All authors are insecure. It comes with the territory.
I remember reading from one author that he didn't go with an idea unless he was really, really scared of it. A horrible, gut sensation that the idea was scary beyond beleif. That meant he'd done something right because the best ideas he'd ever had were ones he'd had this feeling for.
