I got butter on my jeans, so I let my cat lick most of it off. And then I washed them [without water or detergent or something?] but the stain is still there. Help!
What I didn't get on this post was the commenter who said to spray it with WD-40 and then dab it with dishsoap. Yes, make the stain twice as bad and then remove it.
I've never tried it, but I've heard that WD-40 does work. It "reactivates" the stain so that it is fresh, instead of set in. Then you can treat it like a fresh stain.
WD-40 works. I don't know why but it does. It will take out old grease stains that you have given up on. When my boys were living at home I kept it in the laundry room for their Polo shirts. It salvaged many shirts that I was going to toss.
I would not have used it as the initial remedy for a stain, because it doesn't make sense to me to put an oil on a grease stain, but under the "you can't ruin a ruined shirt theory" It DOES work.
Well it takes up oil stains off cement, so I guess it's not THAT far-fetched, but I'm pretty sure that's what discolored my husband's work gloves, so I'm surprised to hear about people intentionally using it on their clothes.

I still wouldn't try it just on some butter I got on my pants, though.
