The most horrible evil thing just happened to a kid across the street from us. His arm got ripped off by a dog. But that's not the worst of it. The bone was still there. He had his whole arm just no skin on it. I am just ... shocked and heartbroken and ... there are absolutely no words for the horror. The 3 year old BABY had stuck his arm ( Read more... )

Oh wow... Sorry that is sooooo scary. What house was it? The ppl that live across the street from us finally put their dangerous dog down... Josh talked to the guy and he said "Yeah we decided after he'd killed another kitten we should problee put him to sleep." *gasp* Oh just then?? The dog attached Bandit, Josh, Bryan, Bryan's dog, Bryan's Dad, killed to 2 kittens... sad. *HUGS* My dear.

Unfortunately, pit bulls have a bad rep. It's how they're trained to behave, not instinctual or inherently evil for them to attack. I've had many friends who've had pits or pit mixes, and they've all been the sweetest things because they're raised right. My dog is maybe part pit, and he's the wussiest, sweetest dog ever, because we made him that way. Not that I'm defending the dogs, but if they weren't trained to be aggressive, they wouldn't be. The same with rottweilers, which I'm not a fan of because I've had bad experiences with them. My mom used to breed them, and hers were incredibly sweet, mild natured dogs because she made sure they weren't aggressive.

That being said, I do hope the little boy is ok. That's a horrible thing to happen to anyone, but especially a child.

The thing is that's what the guy said. "they've never bitten anyone before. They're normally very nice, calm dogs. They were just protecting their property." From what exactly?? A 3 year olds arm.

I have never met a pit bull that was anything but aggressive. My brother even had a pit for awhile and although it was sweet probably 90% of the time, there was that other 10% when it would turn on the kids briefly. It was raised "sweet" but ... it wasn't worth the chance.

I don't trust any of those types of dogs, pits, dobermans, chows & rottweilers. And my Dad has had a rottweiler or 2 all my life. Although they were always sweet to me I knew not to be too comfortable around them.

Thanks for your comment but certainly after this horrible situation, pits will never be on my good list. Besides no animal is worth a human beings safety. The poor 3 year old will grow up with only 1 arm now because he was being a naturally curious 3 year old.
