Book Three, Chapter One: Open Door
The front door of the Dollsyhouse has opened quite suddenly. This gives characters access to the area outside the house: and they are on an island. It is a very tiny island, just large enough for the house (how is it expanding if the area it has to expand on is so small...?). Peering over the edges of the cliff which goes all the way around the building reveals that they are thousands of feet up in the air, floating inexplicably above a stormy ocean. And a short, dangerous jump down will place the residents upon steep, spiraling stairs which go all the way down to the tip of the floating island, perhaps twenty feet above the ocean.
Other floating islands can be seen in the distance. Perhaps there is salvation there? But they are very, very far away...
