One of the nice things that went with being a good student who rarely got into trouble was that when Billy wanted to know someone's birthday, the people in the office were usually willing to give it to him. Topher's birthday was one of the ones he'd made sure to find out, so when the evening rolled around, he made his way down to Topher's room with a small box, and knocked on the door.
"Oh!" Yeah, if it was Billy, ut was totally worth pausing the game. Topher put down his phone, which was good, because one of the T-shaped blocks was about to descend and he had nowhere to put it. "Hey. Um. Hi. No, I'm not busy. Just, uh--" quick, sheepish grin-- "Tetris."
Topher was still a little too weirded out for booze. But he scooted backwards on his bed to make room (and to check that the hallway was clear of squirrels), because wow did he want to talk about that right now.

Topher contemplated the inherent sacrifices involved in pausing his game.

"Welcome back, Topher," he said. "What're you playing? Stargate Defender?"
That wasn't on phones, Dave.

"Yuh-huh," he affirmed, setting his phone down.

She handed over the Mountain Dew and said, "So, did you expect any of that? 'Cause I'm..." Yeah.

Look, he wasn't used to having to choose his words particularly carefully, but after today, he really, really had to.
"Noooo," he said carefully after a minute of... looking a little shifty. "He's. No. Nuh-uh."
