It hadn't really come into focus before, but it just goes to show how vulnerable to absolutely everything the dolls are in their blank slate, and how they'd take any violence that comes to them (thinking of Sierra and Hearn)
Interestingly, these daily snippets make me focus a bit more on how they fit into the overall picture. There were so many little things (even early on) in season 1 that contributed a lot to the bigger picture imo. Take 1x03 "Stage Fright" as an example, I always hear people saying that they didn't like it because it was a filler ep or they just didn't like the backup-singer-has-to-protect-a-popstar plot, but nevertheless there were important parts such as the last scene when they're back in the Dollhouse and while Echo is passing Sierra who wants to wave hello to Eho hello, Echo shakes her head. Many people think that the process of Echo becoming more and more aware of the things that are happening around her is too slow, but since Joss had a 5-year plan for this show, I can see why there were only a few, more or less subtle hints in s1.
