B2MeM 2011, Day Fifteen-The Tower Hills

Mar 22, 2011 15:12

As you can see, I'm not doing these in any particular order.  The destination for this day was Arnor and the challenge was to begin a story with these words:

A gentle breeze brushed the hilltop, combing the ruins...

To my surprise, I found myself revisiting a fellow I'd not dealt with in years from Fourth Age, bratty young prince Tel.

Tel! Or 'Thorontaur,' apparently. I agree with Hethlin - what was his mother thinking? I love seeing old harridan Heth, and Tel forced to accompany her. Though I wonder now how they managed to talk her into bringing him along, particularly if it means leaving a perfectly good horse behind? And I am glad Tel got to meet Lord Celeborn at least the once.

I couldn't find a first name to begin with Tel that I liked for the character, so the inference was that he used Tel from Telcontar because his first name is so wretched. The one I came up with has a sort of Numenorean thing happening, so maybe Tel's mom was into the ancient tales.

Ooh, I've clearly missed some backstory here. Heth the harridan, eh.

The lines that just slipped by there, but that obviously are still on Hethlin's mind, are those that deal with the "Elves who left" and whether or not she knew them well. Seeing Elrohir and Celeborn both set sail for the Undying Lands - if it didn't break her heart, it certainly broke mine.

Sorry, Isabeau. I thought I was logged in when I made my commentary. Shame on me - I dislike anonymous...so NOT me.

That's quite all right, I do it too myself once in a while. Definitely not LJ-saavy-my wrestling with cuts and such is laughable.

Yes, I figure that that did break her heart more than a little bit. Perhaps Eldarion is wise and thinks that dealing with a bratty, provoking young man might take her mind off things a bit.

Heck, it broke MY heart, and it's not even my story! It's such a final farewell for these two who in many ways have been anchors for each other through the years. And she also had a special relationship with Celeborn, although she would never presume to be as free and open with him as with his grandson.

I have to thank you for the plots and tales, but not necessarily for the tears :-)

I had always planned on Elrohir leaving when his brother and grandfather did-Elrohir is an Elf of his word, after all. But it isn't necessarily the last word!

Alas for her personal loss. He needs to learn more about her, obviously.
