Summary: Sesshomaru is always noticeable, so why was he being ignored?

He was now a demon in name only. He couldn’t feel the flow of youki mixing with his blood anymore.

This state is humiliating. He had been many things…never weak.

Sesshomaru tried to claw his way out of the wooden cage which detained him to this filthy basement but couldn’t. Begrudgingly he drowned his pride and whined; anything to get the attention of the miko-child sleeping against the wall.

Nothing.

Pure rage made its way to his stomach, old acid boiling with irritation, when he was ignored but as before he couldn’t spit nor spray acid. Worthless…

“Kagome,” the echo of a female voice bounced to his ears, “Here you are! Master is displeased.”

He observed as the miko’s aura made a cocoon of pure energy and enclosed the girl protectively but a swipe of air slashed it like useless paper.

Sobs rocked the child’s body and he knew he wouldn't hold for much longer, the panic surrounding the child as the wind-witch grabbed her was almost asphyxiating him. Memories of his Rin assaulted him and his eyes bled red.

Sesshomaru growled a ferocious territorial warning but only frightened blue eyes turned to him.

The hanyou couldn’t hear; couldn’t feel him.

However, he was not about to relinquish. This miko had returned him a fraction of what he once was. She deserved no torture, she deserved honors and praises. She was one of the relics who survived the ages and her presence served as a shore where he could find himself again.

He knew what the hanyou-Master of the Shrine had done to her. The miserable feared the child’s powers for they were immeasurable. The Master needed not fear the child; he needed to fear him.

He was Sesshomaru, Lord of all Lands, and he will protect his new Retainer.
