Kagome played with her hair nervously. They had been traveling for sometime now, and for some reason the silence had been overbearing to her.
She bit her lip, fidgeting as she walked. God, this was awkward.
“Um…how bout an icebreaker?”
“I see no ice in the vicinity, miko” he said, turning to gaze at her like she was stupid.
“No, I mean, a little get-to-know-you game.”
“Hn.” He returned his gaze forward.
Kagome tried to rope him into a game, asking questions, telling him silly things, anything to get him talking, but the most she got out of him was:
“It is none of your concern.”
Eventually she gave up and pouted, before going back to her fidgety self.
Finally, Sesshomaru apparently reached the end of his patience. He stopped them at a river, and made her sit cross-legged.
“Your next lesson, miko - meditation,” he instructed, joining her on the grass.
“Huh?”
“Your restlessness is wearing on this Sesshomaru’s patience.”
She stuck her tongue at him.
He glared, then closed his eyes, instructing her to do the same. “Focus on your core, and calm your mind. Let your thoughts empty, and stay still.” He then lapsed into what seemed like a sleepy trance.
Kagome tried. She really did. But she wasn’t made to sit still like that! How’d he turn into a statue anyway?
She eyed him, shifted onto all fours, and approached him cautiously. He didn’t react at all, almost making Kagome believe he had fallen asleep. She threw a glance at the cold rushing water of the river behind him, and grinned. Maybe I should give him a wake up call..
She moved a bit closer, then closer, then closer, before finally raising a hand and…
Suddenly found herself spluttering in the freezing river.
Sesshomaru smirked. “There is your icebreaker. Though it is water, I believe the temperature is sufficiently cold enough, yes?”
She growled and pouted like a wet puppy. “That is not what I meant,” she sulked as she pulled herself out of the river, shivering and staring at the ground.
With a sigh of fabric, Kagome suddenly found her shoulders weighed down by Sesshomaru’s outer haori.
She looked up in surprise.
His back was to her. “Come, miko, we resume our journey.”
She followed him, pulling his robe close and soaking in its comforting warmth. Maybe this wasn’t such a bad icebreaker after all.
